My friend cannot boot into Windows XP

Hi to all

My friend's PC used to be working but suddenly cannot booted into Window. Now he only get a black screen with a cursor blinking.

When he first turn on the computer, he did hear some beeping sound from his PC.

There is NO CD, floppy disk or USB key leaving on his PC.

Just wonder how to do troubleshooting for him.

Please help.

Many thanks in advance.

restart it and count the number of beeps. Google the number of beeps with the brand of motherboard he has - and you should be able to find out what the problem is. Sometimes - it's a vague code - that might indicate Motherboard or CPU failure. But sometimes you'll find out that it's a memory problem or something.

This,

Does it boot to a BIOS/POST or just the blank screen?

Ran into a similar issue and it turned out to be the power supply was toast.

if hes getting a cursor blinking on the screen then the machine is making it past POST, and it's unlikely a hardware issue.

does safemode work? (tap f8 while booting up)
