Tree cutting application denied
 

So i applied to the city to have a 3 storey tree cut down in front my house. It got denied even though the branches always comes down and it's a hazard for us.

I was told that i need to get a arborist to do a tree risk assessment and then reapply again to the city.

Has anyone done this before? and know the cost? i called a couple of places and they said they'll have to come and give me an estimate but won't give me a ballpark figure.

Can anyone help?

can't you call the city and get them to take care of it
if it is hazardous it should be your tax money at work I would think

I don't know about vancouver, but in north van you can cut down trees under a certain size. like 2-3' dia. with no permit. it's only needed for really big ones.

Wish I could fail you for that...you realize if you get caught killing the tree there's some pretty hefty fines. The one woman that killed a number of trees a few years ago had to pay a fine of about $50k if I remember right to replace the trees.

^THIS. What makes you idiots think that if a permit gets denied you can just go ahead and do what you want, the city will see what you've done and issue massive fines.

So to clarify, you want to cut the whole tree down to the ground? Or you want to trim it? An arborist will tell you HOW MUCH you can safely cut before the tree dies. Yet if your cutting the whole bastard down, then an arborist wouldn't help cause essentially your killing the tree anyway.

City of Vancouver is picky on this shit depending on your neighborhood..

i live in richmond, and i have this huge pine tree that's right beside our garage/driveway and the branches keep on coming down. In Richmond, if the city turns down your application all you need to do is get an arborist to make a risk assessment and it will be passed. That's how you appeal their decision. if an arborist says yes, the tree is hazzardous than it can come down. I dont mind planting more trees but the branches coming down on our cars ont he driveway and hitting our garage has become an issue for me

Lol. If its really that easy, just give the arborist some money under the table and call it a day. I thought that maybe you lived in one of the tree-lined streets in Vancouver, and those tree's can be ridiculous to trim, just cause you need all types of permits and things. (Plus the city has to usually do the work anyways)

I know somebody in whiterock that just cut one down anyways and paid the fine because it wasn't that much.

Can u remove the tree and immediately plant something smaller onto the old spot?

Why is this even a thread? Call the arborist and have him come over and look at it and give you a price. Obviously it can depend on a bunch of things, so how is anyone here going to tell you how much it'll cost without seeing the tree?

If it's safety you're really worried about, ask him to take care of the tree and cut the branches that might fall over. If it's that tall, it's been there a lot longer than you have. If you just don't like it (doesn't match the drapes?) why the hell did you buy that piece of land knowing that you can't cut old, healthy trees in Vancouver?
