What is the best oil engine treatment to use?
 

For those with the higher milege engine, do you use any engine oil treatments for your motor?? if so, which one do you use?? or do they even work at all??

my civic has over 215km on it now, so it's not really worth it to rebuild it so whatever maintenance i can do extra to help it run a little longer would be great untill i get my next car...

now I do regular oil change every 3000-5000k..but in between that i have to top up atleast 1 litre of oil every time..there's no blue smoke coming out of the exaust and i passed air care with below avarage reading no problem..so i'm not sure if this is normal or it's just the car is old..

So would engine oil treatment work in this situation to prevents it from further damage?

No don't bother with it, your engine should be fine since you change oil so frequently.

I have to say... back when I had my old Integra, I tried a can of the 'Restore' Engine Restorer. It was on sale at Can Tire, and I figured what the hell. My motor had 230,000kms on it, was a bit noisey, and was burning oil at a pretty decent rate.

It did help with the oil burning, but only a bit. Car 'felt' a bit better, but boy let me tell you, did it ever quiet the motor down! It got to the point where you could barely tell the motor was even running when it was on, and I definately had a lot of comments on how quiet it was.

At like $8 a can or something like that? Why not give it a shot.

I would not bother with oil additives. Next oil change use a High mileage oil from Quaker state, castrol or valvoline. They've worked for a few of my older cars with oil consumption. Didn't stop the loss of oil but it did slow it down.

My father in law swears by Lucas Oil, every other oil change. He says it boosts his MPG by +3 or =4 MPG. And you know, he is such a penny pincher, it must be true!

I haven't tried Lucas Oil yet myself. Has anyone tried it?

i'm not a fan of additives, but i decided to give it a try on my Volvo with 327XXXkms on it.

I used a BG hot oil flush kit when the oil change was due.

It a 3 pack additive. 1 fuel treatment, 1 engine cleaner (let the engine run before draining oil), and 1 engine oil treatment.

most reputable dealer carry the BG line of products and sell them to customers.

I decided that i would try this additive out to see if there was any change.

If you are certain on your car's running condition, then this additive is not worth it. But for cars with sludge issues and high mileage, this will help. When the car was running the clean engine for 10-15 minutes. When i drained the oil (it wasnt that dirty to begin with), the oil came out pretty dirty after running the treatment. I added the fresh oil along with a filter change. Added the additive and everything looked good. The car always ran good, but it ran smoother (this typically happens after a normal oil change though). I noticed that oil consumption is lower (i did change oil brands and viscoisty though), and fuel economy is up.

Definitely will use this product again. I plan to use it on my sister's audi b6 1.8T engine because they are prone to sludge. Thought a clean up would be worth to do.

My BMW in the other hand. I've taken the cylinder head, valve cover, oil pan, and timing covers to know what the engine condition is like. Although it has 190XXXkms. The engine is amazingly clean. I use full synthetic oil, have no leaks, or no consumptions. It's a true runner. This car will not be using any additives. It doesn't need it.

Lucas Oil stabilizer works like a charm on many of the beaters i have owned over the years.
