K&N Airfilters with a hotwire MAF Will putting K&N filters on a car with a hot wire mass air flow sensor screw with the sensor? I heard the K&N's are oil based and will coat the MAF causing a LOSS in power, even damaging the MAF's in some cases.. Should I stay away, or is it fine? |
http://www.knfilters.com/MAF/massairfindings.htm although it IS published by K&N, it says it doesnt damage the MAF |
You should consider a cost/ benefit ration.. a heated wire MAF replacement cost vs imagined horsepower / better sound worth to you. |
before you install the kn clean off all the excess oil from the filter ,youl be surprised with how much u are able to wipe away with a lint free towel...also periodic cleaning (very gentle) of the maf is good insurance..It was a common prob on 5.0s causing irradic idle and hanging revs ,which had guys changinging out tuneup parts unnecesarily trying to solve such an ez prob.. |
It damages the MAF, ask any Nissan technician. Overtime the oil will coat the wires. K&N are junk filters, either go AEM DryFlow or Apex'i. |
Damages the MAF and +1 to Apex'i filter. Lots of BMW owners are plagued with this problem until they swap out for the stock filter. |
