Long story short I got my work meisters refinished and then I sat the car at home, drove it a few days in the past month(not snow/post snow days). Got sick, then some residue/oxidation built up on the lips. Washing didnt help.

Any suggestions?

prob get it polished with some metal polish like P21s Polishing soap

Gonna need a little TLC as Aldric suggested. P21S Polishing soap may do it. If not, a light metal polish and a bit of time should clean that up.

Thanks I got Mothers Metal Polish and its helping a bit but will probably use up my terry cloths/100% cotton shirts lol. Still after a long rub of the same spot the residue remains but not as noticeable.

If you go to UBC or near Richmond, you can come over and try my P21s polishing and see if it works. If it does, you can always buy one from Ken.

sand with 2000 grit sand paper, polish it, clear coat it.

Thanks for the offer, unfortunately I do not plan to drive the car until some more rain comes down and washes the salt away, so I wouldn't be able to come try it. Appreciate the kind offer though kyoshiro.

I'm hoping I'll have more attempts at rubbing it with the mothers metal polish before rain/snow hits. Richard @ Nubrite, who refinished the wheels said that if I use too much of the metal polish over time it will go straight through so I guess I have to limit myself

pick up a mothers foam cone polisher...it attaches to your drill, and some mothers aluminum billet polish....and away you go...I did it to my carlssons...took me 1hr to do 4 rims. I had my car sitting in my garage for 1.5 months with salt humidity eating away at my unclear coated rims....just make sure to seal the rims after with a good wheel sealant.

Swissvax Autobahn

or Bilt Hamber Autobalm actually works quite well on rims for european brake dust lol
I have however heard bad stories about these mothers drill attachments breaking off and stuff so just be careful with it. I think you're better off polishing by hand really.

i've had my mini-ball, large ball, and the cone attachment for years...aslong as you take care of your tools, and dont rush anything the outcome is pretty darn fantastic compared to 6hrs of wet sanding.

you should first clay/tarminator/decon those off first. Those are usually brake dust baked on. You wont be giving an even polish.

lol 2000 grit isn't going to remove anything. Have you tried wheel cleaner yet?

I used claybar but I didn't get to clean it right away so I suppose the dust built up again. However on the jar of polish I have, it says that there will be a black residue that appears, which is a good sign because if it doesn't show up that means it's not polish-able.

I have used Megiuars hot rims cleaner(didn't work) and bought myself a bottle of Auto Glym Custom Wheel cleaner which I haven't tried.

you could try ironX if all else fails (eats it away)
but black residue is supposed to appear... it sounds more bad than good imo lol

The polish helps but doesnt rid all of it. I'm doing 1 wheel full on right now. Clean clay and polish. Results in a bit. Frickin cold outside!

That black residue that builds up on the ball/cone or even cloth is just the oxidized aluminum(iirc).

I usually polish a bit, then wipe with cloth. repeat as needed.
