bolt broken off, now what?? Hey guys, I'm getting a car for free because the guy screwed it up pretty good. its a 93 ford probe GT with the V6... the timing belt tensioner broke off... so they drilled out the bolt and put in a easy-out... broke the easy out off. Now what?? is the motor fucked?? |
drill out the easy out? shouldnt be fucked might be a pain in the ass to take out though... or depending on where the bolt broke off you may be able to weld on a "cap" and unbolt it out, but it depends on location and working room |
the easy out would be be a bitch to drill out, it's just as hard if not harder than the drill bit. it's like snapping a tap or a drill bit in something then trying to drill it out. |
Use lots of cutting oil and you'll need a few bits but you will be able to drill out the easy out |
i'd suggest using a unibit as they are stronger than a normal drill bit.. kinda pricey, but work so well |
You could probably drill out the bit with a cobalt bit and a ton of fluid to lubricant, I'd say your going to need to install a heli-coil. |

If it is a shop, it is their fault, why not just let them figure it out? The car is old, there are plenty of engines around. Honestly the time and effort required probably cost more than the car is worth. Quote:

I'm looking for a quick easy buck, if it takes me a few hours to get it out than so be it. If im going to need to put a engine in, than I'll crush it. I'll pull the rad etc out and see how much room I have to work with. I may try welding on a cap and unbolting it. |
