VW GTi stereo removal

Hey Guys,

my brother has a 1994 VW GTi, aftermarket deck. He wants to junk the car but keep the radio. Had it installed at Visions in Burnaby, but I can't figure out how to remove it..

Can anyone give me tips or tools to take it out? I tried using a filing cabinet folder (the hooks) but I have no clue what to fish out or push down.

What kind of deck is it?

Pioneer.

Exactly like that, but instead of just the AUX, it's a usb port.

if its anything like my panasonic-- you see those 4 grey metal tabs (in about each corner)? you pry at them so it lifts the stereo out of the seating. what i do is use two jeweller screw drivers (or two small flatheads) and pry them towards you at the same time. it should pop out pretty easy.

my two cents-- if it doesnt work with a light pull, better luck finding the model and googling the manual

Do you still have the 2 "keys" that came with the head unit? its a very skinny L shaped metal tabs

i never owned the tabs for these but i managed to pull my deck using a small nail file and pushing it into the slots, good luck!

Pioneer has two spring clips on the DIN sleeve.
If you don't have the keys, you can use an old hacksaw
blade with the teeth ground off. Call it 10mm wide and
65mm long. The short sides of the sleeve, at the middle,
should be where you slide the keys in. Sometimes, the deck
is jammed against the sleeve, by those metal fingers that hold the
sleeve into the dash. Take a bit of care, and you can use a
little hook to grab just inside the CD opening and GENTLY
pull to get things moving. Good luck.
