the the M button on the M5 is pretty gimmicky too 400 hp / 500 hp with a push of a button |
I bet the two key idea has to do more with liability than anything else. A button could be "accidentally" pressed whereas inserting a key requires "intent" from the driver. If you spun your car in the rain you wouldn't be able to say "I pressed a button by accident" or "I didn't know it was on". It's also likely the engine is no longer emissions legal (or if it is it's put into a "dirtier" class) with the track key, and the EPA might frown on this being activated by something as simple as a button. I think the "marketing" is just a side effect of them wanting the user to require a little more effort than pressing a button. Posted via RS Mobile |
Yeah but with a bmw u already have a key with the bmw logo u can dangle in front of people. Kudos to the ford marketing team to allow people to "show off". Quote:

I had the opportunity to "drive" one of these beasts yesterday with only 323km on it, very nice inside and out. Sounds wicked but the one complaint i did have was the seats, i found they dug into my sides a little bit. Other then that, if i had the money i would buy one. |

i was surprised you found the recaros a bit tight. i'm 6'1" and it was *just* right for me... but the lumbar support was a different story. i hate how dealers are marking up their stock. i think the cheapest one in the gvrd at the moment is the one at brown bros, if it hasn't sold yet? here's a cool story about how the very first boss built was sold: How one lucky Mustang enthusiast bought Boss 302 #0001 | Mustangs Daily |
feels kinda weird seeing euro plates on american muscle cars... |
I'm 5'11" about 185lbs.. very average. The BOSS Recaros fit me perfectly. The factory short shift is also glorious. Since BOSS allocation was based on a lottery, not every dealer got a BOSS, and only SVT dealers get Laguna Secas. Ours sold within 45min of us getting the email that we have 1 unit allocated to us, and I sold it at MSRP. And in my opinion considering the demand, and what we made on it, Ford did not put enough markup into the MSRP for us. At $5k over MSRP it`s still a good deal compared to a BMW or Porsche or Corvette. |
On the other hand, when a POS American company like Ford produces a car that lays the smackdown on anything near its price range, then I guess people will look for even the tiniest things to fault (like having two keys). |

1) EDC - firms up the shocks from setting 1-5 2) Steering Ratio - firms up steering response 3) DSC - you can choose a M dynamic mode that allows some slip angles 4) Shift Pts - you can increase or slow down the speed of shifts 1-6. |

The only reason i drove it, and i mean like half a block was because the manager bumped another car with the boss 302 and the bumper had to be repainted. (yes someone has actually mangaged to damage one of these cars so quickly) |
people whining about the trackey probably couldn't handle the normal key in the first place. |

First, they de-tune the engine from 500HP down to 400HP and then give you a button to return the engine to "stock" levels of power. Lame.. Why not just give you 500HP all the time? Change the speed of shifts? If you can give me one good example of why you'd even want your transmission to shift slower then I'll take back calling this a purely useless feature, or in other words, a gimmick. The Ford key does more than tune the engine. People are always talking about the engine ECU and the changes made, but it also modifies other settings in the vehicle as well. And instead of giving you a "range" of settings like so many others, it's either "all on" or "all off" The whole idea of letting a user set their suspension (or other parameter) from 1-9 is pointless since the difference between 3 or 4 is so small people can't notice it. Hence it's a marketing gimmick to say you have "9 settings" of adjustability when the actual owners keep it at 1 or 9 and never bother with the intermediate positions because there's no noticeable difference. That said, I have limited experience with automatics - do they not have the same issue? |

I do work for BMW. My employers don't spend their time reading the Facebook pages of employees or looking into what they do in their off hours to try and "catch" them doing something. Perhaps if they were 12 years old I'd have something to worry about - since they're not, I don't. Perhaps you should call them and report my post and see what they say? |
^ Let me think about this....you work for BMW but you bad mouth the technical aspects of the cars......thank you for sharing your character.........since you suggested it, maybe I will cut and paste your quote and send it to BMW Canada....whatever kool guy... |

Just because you work for a company it doesn't mean you have to like certain aspects of said company. |

Speaking of character, now we know a bit more about yours. Firstly that you're a RAT, and secondly that you get so upset at something said on a forum (something trivial, BTW) you feel you need to take action. You can do whatever you like. I'm VERY AWARE of what I can and cannot say and how it relates to my job (there are several pages of guidelines in our employee manuals). This is why I have absolutely no worries and why I'll leave my post UNEDITED to stand as is. Have a nice long weekend - I know I will. :) Posted via RS Mobile |
^ you are right, you can say whatever you want. The fact you are all worked up is hilarious. You are so cool man, standing by what you said....hahahaha.......you are like a starbucks barista telling customers that Starbucks coffee is shit and go buy some Tim Hortons. Rat? I guess I am if you say so, but I really don't care what you think. I am glad you read your employee handbooks....I am pretty sure you will never get promoted at BMW with an attitude like yours......keep being right! |
