As it turned out the photos were nothing more than a ploy to stir up some easy viral publicity for his new film. He wasn’t dying. He wasn’t even sick. He simply lost a lot of weight for a movie role. It was a total buzz-kill. But losing 60 lbs for a movie character did show a surprising amount of dedication one wouldn’t expect from the “Candy Shop” singer.

Curtis Jackson, as he prefers to be called in reference to his thespian exploits, went on a nine-week all-liquid diet that helped lead to his drastic weight loss. For someone who’s has made being shirtless and showing off his muscles into somewhat of a calling card, weighing a mere 160 lbs made Jackson look like a walking skeleton.

Because of his dramatic physical transformation, Jackson’s name was mentioned in the same breath as Academy Award winners Tom Hanks and Christian Bale, who underwent similar transitions for their roles in “Cast Away” and “The Machinist.”

It’s no secret that 50 Cent has never been well-received actor—hell, he hasn’t even been a well-received rapper in nearly a decade. But because of the weight loss Jackson had some buzz building for his upcoming film. And judging by how arrogant he’s always seemed to be, I’m guessing he was tasting Oscar gold or at least a couple Image awards for this performance.

Well, the first trailer for his new film “Things Fall Apart” has surfaced and it has the look and feel of a CBS ‘Movie of the Week.’ The premise of the film is as simple as it is cliched: a superior athlete on the verge making it to the NFL develops cancer and fights the disease in an effort to return to the game he loves.

The film also stars Ray Liotta, who has regained that ghostly look in his eyes from “Field of Dreams,” as his miracle-working doctor. The film seems like a cross between Brendan Fraiser’s recent “Extraordinary Measures” with less production value, crossed with the Disney sports flick “The Express.”

The entire trailer just seems a tad bit off, almost hilariously so. Even the voice-over is cringe-worthy and painfully unoriginal: “Deon Barnes had it all, until life took it away.” I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Jackson wrote and produced the film as well.

I think 50 should probably get back to what he does best: tweeting, penny stocks, and, of course, hustling to get that paper.

the whole trailer basically is the movie, it just gave everything away.. its soo low budget that during the football scene you can see the empty bleachers and the "crowd of extras" which is no more than 50 (no pun intended) people..
