Quick question do you need to have receipts on you to register it with canadian customs? I registered my 40D a long time ago but it was from HK and I didn't have a receipt, not sure if I got lucky but I should find out since I need it for my 7D also from hk with no receipt, or at least no receipt to say it was purchased in canada.

I feel like it's unnecessary though since you could easily buy one second hand that someone may have brought from HK

You can register it with the serial numbers on your equip.

All you're doing with "registering" it, is making a record that you're bringing it out of the country with you... so when you bring it back in, there's proof that you had it with you before and didn't buy it while you were away.

Receipts with purchase date, location, and serial number are another way to prove where you got it... but not necessary if you register your gear on the way down.

i tried bringing an electronic item (an old laptop, noticeably worn on all the corners) to the custom's office to get a green card.
the first thing they asked was "do you have a receipt?".
i ended up not getting a green card for it.

They wownt even ask....

If they say "did you buy that camera while you were down here"

You show them the timestamp of the photos you took of your kinky bedroom fetishes days / weeks / months ago.
