kicking the landlord off the router

my landlord included the internet in the rent but he is always downloading movies/porn. My ping is always at 2000+.The network is secure as I know all the ip's on the dhcp client table and secured it with wpa personal 2. I would like to kick him off for a few hours so I can do some online gaming. I know I can delete his ip/pc off the client table through the router but I dont want to permanently delete him. will he be able to get back on through LAN after deleting him? sorry if I sound confusing as I am still new to the networking thing.

get your own damn internet then

Okami 03-12-2011 10:22 PM

so what you are saying is.. you want to kick someone off their own internet..??

why not just kinda ask him to lower the rent (the cost of what he's charging for internet)

and sign up to get your own fucking internet..

it may cost more.. but at least you don't have to compete with the porn

Share your porn with him, you wouldn't have this problem.

to0n 03-12-2011 10:35 PM

Find out what application he uses to download his torrents, and block the port.

hope some of these help .. its pretty easy, and you can usually set it up so at the click of a button, torrents = blocked!

Yes.

There is a lease-time associated with DHCP so at some point in time, his PC will broadcast a DHCP Discovery packet. The router will see it and eventually assign it a new IP and he'll be back on before you even know it.

You will either have to block the ports where he's using to tie up the bandwidth or you block him completely from your router through a MAC filter. Another option is to setup throttling/QoS on his specific PC. There are other ways but I'm just throwing these ideas out there.

Even if you delete his lease from the router, it won't remove his IP from his computer, so he will still be connected.

You will need to disable his port, block his traffic, or block or thottle his IP address on the router.

who DOWNLOADS porn?

seriously, 6 minutes on redtube.. /

Jeremy617 03-12-2011 10:56 PM

Even though i think you're a bit of a douche for attempting this, the easiest way i can think of would be to disable DHCP on the router completely. Then change the ip address of the router to another subnet, like 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0, and assign yourself a static IP in the same subnet.

Any PC without a static IP in that subnet would have zero network access. Then change the router back to the normal network and re-enable dhcp when you're finished.

That being said, its still a terrible idea, if he notices his internet isn't working first thing he'll do is go reset the router and fuck you over anyways.

edit: this is a pretty risky step though, if you don't really know what you're doing you stand a good chance of locking yourself out of the router too... then you'll have to go explain why you need to hit the factory reset button on it.

Too advanced for him. He'll fuck shit up.

He's offering you internet but he never said how fast it would be or guarantee you a certain speed. Pay for your own. Its not like its expensive.

are you out of your mind?

Vansterdam 03-13-2011 04:43 PM

this is why i always get my own internet when i move, landlord provided internet is always fucken slow

lowside67 03-13-2011 04:54 PM

First of all, this is RETARDED... you are guaranteed internet access, not FAST internet access.

However, since I love a good hijink, the way I would go about this is pretty simple. If you wreck his internet access, he will notice that he has no internet access and will work to fix it (ie to undermine your efforts). If you make it less obvious that you are restricting him, you have a better chance of him not noticing, therefore getting away with it longer.

With that in mind, I believe most modern routers can restrict bandwidth by port, if so, it should be relatively simple to determine what port his Bittorrent traffic goes through, then throttle it back to 50 or 75kb/s and he'll be none the wiser.

I'm gonna lock this thread. Don't kick your landlord off his own internet. There have already been many useful suggestions for taking other avenues in this thread.
