now that i know she's more or less an up and coming porn star, im' geting the feeling that she posted the youtube video as an attempt at publicity and was succesful. I'm not sure if she's all that mad or sad now that it's big.

With the events in Japan it's clear that the Japanese people are, for the most part, very considerate of others (masks so as not to get others/themselves sick, no looting ect.). More so than Canadians (imo).
From my limited personal experience its seems that the Chinese are the least conforming when it comes to Canadian social norms. How would you guys rank the various nationalities when it come being 'disruptive'? (Indian/middle east included)

I'm going to tack on a bunch of shit I've observed that its even bad form for HONG KONG.

1) Tourists pointing and yelling at each other at the mouth of the escalators, not really arguing but just discussing where to go next.

2) Going into the elevator when you tell them politely it is (not going in their direction), you either get ignored or get a "oh". They come in anyway, and proceeds to bash the buttons and wonder why it's not going in their direction

3) The shuttle bus to and fro from the office to the nearby mall during lunch time is louder than jamming 200 kids in a school bus. Indoor voice does NOT exist in Asia

4) SUPREMELY loud and sometimes inappropriate ringtones at work/movie theatre/public transportation. I don't understand why some hongers have Nickelback - Rockstar as their ringtone

5) People pushing into the Subway when the subway itself is empty AND it's arriving at the terminal station so the thing won't leave for another 5 minutres

6) FOBS standing on the left side of the escalators, universally known to stay away for people that are in a hurry. I've run into cases where dude is there, you ask him nicely to move, and he goes "There is room", and he points to the sliver of space between him and the guy beside him on the right side, ON THE SAME step.

7) Two ugly girls/couple hogging the sidewalk walking casually as if Hong Kong didn't have 7 million people.

8) FOBs walking along a busy sidewalk, only to stop abruptly and point at (insert LV store), followed by more traditional yelling.

9) Old men blowdrying their pubes, feet, and other places NOT called their head in the Gym. I was baffled at first when they had a sign asking ppl to only blowdry their hair.

10) Middle aged women hogging up tables at restaurants. You are seated when they're on their dessert, and they're still there when you leave. They're loud (given), but they also burst into laughter all the time.

11) FOBS walking to your table, pointing at your dish, practically spitting on it as he asks the waiter "WHAT IS THIS". Then copies what you ordered to a tee.

I think I should stop now LOL.

Random Japan story: I remember when I was a kid in Tokyo Disney, the guy in front of me was smoking. When asked to stop by an employee, the dude stopped right away and he took out his own miniature ask tray in the shape of a small box.

Chinese people, I will refrain from including other Asian races, are generally quite exclusive. We're not racist per se, we just like to hang out with our own people.....a LOT. I think this creates a problem when you move to a new country as you give off this vibe that you do not want to assimilate yourself, which annoys local people.

pastarocket 03-15-2011 06:56 PM

Another dumb American blonde putting her foot in her mouth. Beware of karma, blondie! Somebody do some kung fu on this fool! Don't mess with Asians! :fullofwin:

LuHua 03-15-2011 07:16 PM

Hmm, I have to agree with some of her points though, but not exclusively Asians. Some people just can't read the atmosphere, or the signs for that matter. You always get get an annoying group in Irving @ UBC, given it's not exactly a silent study area but it is dead silent in the morning, that just start talking at full volume.

Or some just walk along and open doors with ~10 or so "Alarm will sound"/"Do not open" signs plastered across.

Her video has some valid points, but timing and execution was horrible. Hope she never graduates.

different types of mannerisms.
white people are more considerate in a way. here they hold doors for you and say "thank you". in asia theres no such consideration as people claim they have no time for that sort of thing. also white people are much more likely to help a stranger in distress, while in asia they tend to follow the "mind your own business" rule. asians push and shove and spit and talk loud in public, and dont respect personal space. when you go to a casino and watch a table game, some old asian grandpa is bound to squeeze in front of you to watch even when theres no such space to do so. its more of a selfish mentality.

and i agree with her that asians tend to be inconsiderate in study areas and socialize near people trying to concentrate.

i could probably list tons of things white people do as well but thats another post.

i think it just comes down to which FAMILY they grow up in

Average asian RS poster: "Man I hate those mainland chinese because of their bad manners, spitting everywhere, smoking, bad breath, talking loud, etc etc etc". I've seen that shit on these forums countless times and it was ok, because asians say it. Nobody was offended? Are there no mainland chinese on these forums? LOL

Anyway, as a white person, if I feel the same as the asians mentioned above, I can't really say anything, because it's automatically racist and I'll be regarded as a bigot.

nastiest/grossest thing those chinese people do is start hoorking up the nastiest sounding thing EVER

they fuckin do it in the god damn washroom at metro town and i just start gagging at the god damn sound so nasty.... :Puke::Puke:

thats definitely part of it. im not buying the 'asians are more polite than caucasians' thing tho. ive seen extremely rude people on both sides. i live in richmond so i see the chinese side quite often!

darkfroggy 03-16-2011 12:18 AM

Wow, so much hate towards asians.

Makes me think of 1920s all over again. So much retarded anecdotal evidence, so little empirical evidence.

I'm looking forward to how peter chao respond to her.

Mr.HappySilp 03-16-2011 01:07 AM

She does have a point. Library is a place to study not a place to chat on your phones. There are pictures and Signs Clearly STATING NO FOOD, DRINK, CELL PHONE in the library.

Just think when you are trying to studying for your finals and every 10mins someone walks by you chatting on their cell phone. It will get really annoying.

I hate to admint it but most of the people that chats on the cell phones in the library are asian. When someone calls me on my cell (always have it set on silent in the library), I let ti ring and rush out of the library to answer it. If I want to listen to some music I use my earphone.

Follow the rules or expect people to complain.

Reminds me when David Lam Library (for us UBC people), it got so noisy that they have no choice but to partition parts of the desks and call em "group study" tables, leaving only half that are legitimate quiet study areas. Reason? Us Asians are too loud. It's a fact, we need to change that.

RESN 03-16-2011 09:44 AM

You know why there are all these Asians lining up for food at costco, libraries, etc? Because Vancouver and richmond is FULL of them. Shit, like some of you are acting as if there are just as many "white people" (canadians and americans lol) here as there are Asians when clearly there are way more FOBS (oh shit suprise surprise). See that Asian over there talking on the phone in the library? Chances are that asian is probably a fob. Yes everyone knows fobs are annoying (except themselves)). so next time they annoy you, ignore them or move your seat to somewhere where there are no Asians visible. I like to hide in a room, usually fobs like to talk loudly in open areas where alot of people can hear them.. Nothing we can do about all these rich ass FOBS taking over anyways. Might as well get used to it... Because they sure as hell aren't going to change their manners over night.

See the library shouldn't do that. If a person have been warn and contiune to break the library rules that person should be remove from the library. We are all grown adults not some 4years old that needs people to tell them how to act to behave.

TheKingdom2000 03-16-2011 01:18 PM

^ I was always under the impression that David Lam Library at UBC was a group study library?

No one really went there to study silently. That's what the dungeon was for.
No reception, super quiet, and there were silent study nazi's there so if you were too loud they would take care of you.
