You scan the code with your smart phone to get more information on something. The little code contains a URL that opens in your browser.

They make it easy to access webpages, etc.
for example - if see an ad you like - or a product you like - but want to know more info - if you were just walking around, you might not be bothered to enter a long webpage address. With QR code - just load the scanner, scan the code, and it can auto-direct you to a website - or give you product specifications, or a store address.

Basically - it's a glorified barcode which can store a lot more info.

If you sit in front of a computer, links are Blue and Underlined and you Click on them.
If you are walking about on the street or sitting on the bus, you can't do that. So instead, they came up with a way to turn that bunch of text in a link, into a barcode.

Don't you need a program to scan it though?
ie. with bbm, you use the bbm feature to scan a persons contact. But, i've also always wondered this?

I saw an add for air canada and it had this logo on it. Would I just use my Camera to scan it? How would It link me to a site if I just take a picture of it?
