Weird sound when down shifting!!! So the Title really says it all!! when im down shifting into 3 or second gear i get the normal engine sound but at the same time i get this weird sound... its not like its grinding but just a weird sound that shouldnt be there.... what could this be? |
What kind of car? Is it a whining or whirling sound? It's fairly common for the input shaft bearing inside the tranny to go on higher mileage 5 speed Hondas. |
ya thats exactly what it sounds like.... its a 2000 honda civic!! so you think its an input shaft bearing??? |
does it sorta sound like police sirens (first thing that comes to my mind) |
Is it only downshifting? could be the throw out bearing like other people have said. |
ya i was trying to listen to it yesterday and its only when its in the lower gears.... like third second and first when i down shift.... i kind of noticed it when i was accelorating but not as much as the swirling sound when i down shift... |
Does it do it when the clutch pedal is pressed in or when you are letting the clutch pedal go after downshifting? If it makes the noise when the clutch pedal is pressed in, it's the throwout bearing. If it does it when the clutch pedal isn't pressed, it's the input shaft bearing. |
Check your transmission fluid first or replace it if you haven't serviced it for a while. it may just need lubrication |
ya i was thinking that i might just need to get the fluid changed.... but to YK86.. its actually only when the clutch is out!!! when i have the clutch in there is no noise.... its not bad but i hate hearing sounds that i dont know.... How much do you guys think it would cost to get that fixed??? if it is the bearings? |
