Formula 1 2011 Season

With 2011 testing completed, the Australian GP is fast approaching. Some changes to from the 2010 season:

- No 'double' diffuser
- K.E.R.S. being used again
- Perelli tires joining as the sole supplier
- No F-Duct
- Flip up rear wing element

Quote:

Each type will carry its own distinct colouring on the Pirelli and PZero logos affixed to the sidewall. Under the sport's rules, only two compounds of slick tyre - known as the prime and the option - will be used for each race. In addition to this, intermediate and wet tyres can be fitted if it rains.

The six colours are as follows:
Wet - orange
Intermediate - light blue
Super soft - red
Soft - yellow
Medium - white
Hard - silver

that's awesome..

but whoever posted this awhile back:

has ruined the formula 1 sound effect for me...

edit: btw do thy still have that one engine rule?

Great68 03-18-2011 09:34 AM

I don't like how they control the use of the rear flap with the proximity detection (Have to be within 1 second of another car) and within certain zones only on straights...

Just let them use it whenever they fucking want! The F-Ducts were much better this way.

I agree with you Great68! I think their chasing their tails with the new attempt at increasing passing.

My opinion is they need to scale back the braking ability of the cars. Most passing is done going into a braking zone, todays F1 cars brake in such short distance and for such a short amount of time; there isn't much to work with.

They are allowed 8 engines for a season.

I think that having a maximum number of engines is reasonable, but I don't understand why they limit the RPM's. Let the teams decide how fast they want to spin the motor, reliability vs power, make it their gamble to make.

Also the gearbox rule has been updated this year:

Quote:

Each driver may use no more than one gearbox for five consecutive events. Every unscheduled gearbox change will require the driver to drop five places on the grid at that meeting. Every subsequent unscheduled gearbox change will require the driver to drop five places on the grid.

OK with the predefined zones, with a predefined distance, the new rear wing rule seems more like a chance to get penalized by technicalities than anything else.
