Thin Amplifiers?

Hi,

I was wondering if there are any thin amps out there? Current I am using an Alpine MRP-F300. I would like something much thinner and performs the same if not better then my current amp. Must have all the connections I currently have as well in order for it all to work.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Cheers
Mike

Hey Mike, many companies make mini amplifiers these days that work fairly efficiently while still delivering reasonable amounts of power. Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Arc Audio, Digital Designs, JVC and a slew of other amps are available in these smaller sizes ranging from 50 watts X2 all the way to 1000 watts X1. Some are better than others but some are not that great at running cool. The most powerful and best amps I have ever used are pretty large in size so its hard to justify buying a smaller amp and sacrifice my sound quality. Thats just me though.

Most vendors here have a great line of small amps for you to choose. What kind of power are you looking for?

Hey, thanks for the quick reply!
I'm not looking for much as I don't listen to music that often and I'm not looking to have the loudest on my street. Just some nice base to go along with the song.

My current amp specs:

4-channel car amplifier
50 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (75 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms)
150 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 4 ohms (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)
2-, 3-, or 4-channel output
variable high-pass/low-pass filters (50-400 Hz, 12 dB/octave)
selectable bass boost (12 dB at 50 Hz)
subsonic filter (15 Hz, 18 dB/octave for channels 3 & 4)
MOSFET power supply
CEA-2006 compliant
STAR Topology (minimizes internal noise and prevents ground interference)
speaker- and preamp-level inputs
gold-plated screw terminals
fuse rating: 25A x 2
8-gauge power and ground leads recommended — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
10-11/16"W x 2-7/16"H x 9-9/16"D

My setup is fairly basic. Alpine 6x9 in the rear, Infinity 6.5 two way components with tweeters in the front doors and a 10inch Focal sub. I actually only want a smaller amp as mine sometimes gets caught on my drivers seat as the amp is located under there. It still has enough room to breathe so it doesn't overheat but something between 1-2 inches max would be great.

I also need to replace my two way components as I believe my front drivers side speaker is busted. I just get a light buzzing sound when its connected. It never did that before until today after reconnecting it all. For the longest time my sound system would cut in and out due to me accidentally cracking it up. I was driving, two hands on the wheel and as I put my hand down to shift gears my fingers slipped and turned the dial on my HU full blast. Ever since then it cuts in and out if you go any higher then volume level 8-10 depending on the song. I usually keep it at 7 but sometimes will go a little higher if the quality of song is not up to par.

The power I currently have is pretty much all I need. So if I can get something similar or maybe a little better but in a smaller size in height that would be great. There's not a lot of room in my 97 Prelude to stick an amp somewhere.

After doing a quick google search I found Sony XM-4S and Blaupunkt THA475 that are fairly thin.

I've worked with those Blaupunkts and they are pretty much junk. No balls at all. Sony is also pretty crappy as far as quality goes. You should swing by and see what amps we have to offer. We have lots of choices for decent prices too.

Go and see Orgasm_Donor at SoundsGood. It will be well worth your trip, and the guys at the shop are awesome.

Guarnteed he'll have something that will met your criteria, and he'll most likely be able to trouble shoot the other issues you've got.

Yea, I'll have to come visit. If not I've been thinking about ditching my system completely and starting a complete wire tuck and stripping some parts for lighter weight.
