sounds like a true soccer game:woot2:

Gh0stRider 04-02-2011 07:36 PM

Vuvuzelas are not allowed anymore.

Signs, banners, drums etc now have to be approved by the Whitecaps before brining them to the stadium.

seakrait 04-06-2011 07:30 PM

Anyone watching the game?

omg the ref. i mean, thanks for the penalty shot but wow.

forsberg5 04-06-2011 07:46 PM

that first red shouldn't have been a red

jigga250 04-06-2011 08:06 PM

well, nobody can say whitecaps games arent entertaining!

Hasili's 2nd yellow was probably one of the dumbest plays I've ever seen:failed:

But yeah, Koffe's red, and Hasili's first yellow were weaksauce

Tegra_Devil 04-06-2011 08:18 PM

what a game..........fuck me............

stupid ref

Gh0stRider 04-06-2011 08:50 PM

I don't think the time burning strategy worked too well, especially it was 9 vs 10 still left with 15 mins. They should've still put pressure on the offensive end.

I enjoyed it! :D Finally some emotion in vancouver sports..none of this "plz calm down/sit down" Ive gotten at Canucks games..

Tapioca 04-06-2011 09:19 PM

I was at the game tonight and I agree, the officiating was terrible. (though Hassli needs to keep his emotions in check)

I thought the Whitecaps did a decent job of defending in this game, especially when they were 2 men down. Harris and Khalfan had some promising plays in the 2nd half, but couldn't finish.

Ronin 04-06-2011 09:47 PM

Dumbass move by Hassli. You have to be aware that you already have a yellow. Taking off his shirt with another underneath shouldn't be a card, I think but still, don't put the ref in a position to call that. I think he cost us the win, to be honest. With 10 men, maybe that goal doesn't go in.

But fuck that ref...what a load of shit. Those were fouls...but not red cards.

svelt 04-06-2011 09:48 PM

That was fucking hilarious. Heartbreaking for sure, but the entire sequence of events... questionable pk given, hassli scores, runs and takes off his jersey to reveal the exact same shirt underneath for the lolz, tosses his shirt to the fans, then gets a red card in utter disbelief. Thought he was being smart by trying to interpret the rules his own way but gets owned in the end.

The second dumbest thing I've seen on the pitch... but can't quite top what another Frenchman did at the '06 WC...

Ronin 04-06-2011 09:59 PM

Well, you can't say Whitecaps games aren't exciting. Seriously, all three home games so far have been full of drama. The first two were basically Disney sports movies. This one was not quite as awesome but damn, still...so much happened. Loads of entertainment.

And Zidane was awesome. He HEADBUTTED some smug Italian asshole in the chest. That's the stuff of legend.

According to FIFA law 12:

Quote:

The IFAB, the body responsible for the Laws of the Game, decided to add a detail to Law 12 relating to 'Fouls and Misconduct', stating: "A player who removes his jersey after scoring a goal will be cautioned for unsporting behaviour."

So as to avoid any ambiguities and facilitate the correct interpretation and application of the Law, a player will be deemed to have removed his jersey - and therefore become liable for a caution - if the jersey has been pulled over the player's head, or if his head has been covered by the jersey (see illustration - Removal of the jersey guidelines ).
My friend mentioned the play to me and he also thought you are fine as long as you have another shirt underneath but looks like the ref made the correct call.

Also Zidane's red card was provoked. I know he should be used to it as professional but hey, everyone has a line and for him I guess it's his family. Besides he has won like every important cup and regarded as a legend so I would say he retired in style! :fullofwin:

murmur 04-06-2011 10:25 PM

at least hassli scored a goal before his red card
he might be stupid today
but never never as stupid as the great muntari:

I didn't either when I went to the home opener but Empire with the Caps is magic. Stomping on the stands? Amazing.

It's really too bad that Empire will be torn down in the fall. I don't think you can replicate the atmosphere in BC Place.

Hopefully the plan to build the Waterfront stadium will regain some traction and the Caps will have a true outdoor soccer-specific stadium some day.

I met Eric Hassli today. I didn't ask him about the Jersey, just said he had a nice goal. He seemed super modest.
