Vcation ideas?

I have to plan a family vacation for my relatives. Two of them are from Toronto and we want to see are options are. Booking a cruise would be ideal for me but I know it's impossible in March to book for Western Carribean for July in such short notice.

I have been to Trinidad and Tobago, and they wanted to do something different. Costa Rica? Jamaica? Cuba? Dominican Republic? Scuba Diving is a must for me, but we want to see if there are places we can go with a few more family oriented places / activities to do. Drinking won't be an issue so i'm not too worried about all inclusive. I need to find a place that has a bit of history and sites to look at so fire away boys and girls, where should I go.

booking a cruise isnt impossible for july. Yes it will be expensive though leaving it this late.

Jamacia is always a stunning area if you want to stop and flop style of holiday but no history stuff. There is tourist things there but not too much.

Costa Rice has alot of eco nature stuff with some great beaches but no history.

Cuba has history in Havana etc but not on the beach. Go to Varadero and do day trip into Havana as an option. Varadero being ur beach style resorts with a short trip to Havana.

Costa Rica has diving. I usually only travel for scuba diving as well. Curacao has history and one of the healthiest reefs, since it's just out of the hurricane zone. Very easy shore diving.

Booking a caribbean cruise for July right now is not an issue at all. In fact, there's some great last-minute deals right now for April sailings, let alone July.

Try a cruise to Baja

I have been reasearching a (driving) trip to Baja, from So. California. There are some great deals on cruises out of Los Angeles and San Diego. From what I have found out there is some great diving near Cabo San Lucas.

You do not want to drive across the boarder to Mexico from the US right now. Or be any where in Northern Mexico outside of major tourist places.

If you want to go down there right now, fly in. There's very serious conflict going on in the boarder area, and the government's had a travel advisory against it for over a year now.

+1, Tijuana/Baja is very sketchy right now. Even in tourist areas there have been reports of kidnappings and murders.

Yeah last fall when I was down at San Diego we got stopped by random customs checks several times on the highway and the news coverage of the stuff going on in Tijuana was just disturbing (and most of that isn't getting up here at all for what ever reason). I hear it's just gotten worse since then rather then better. :(
