Never realized the chairs they use at my office were this expensive. I've been using this chair at work for 2 years now and personally I'm not a fan as the seat isn't comfy and back support material is too hard for my liking. I prefer cloth or leather.

Living Space in Mont Pleasant has one, and its on sale. Unfortunately they did not have a Mirra.

Any reviews of the Space Air Grid Black Task Chair? Looks alot like the Herman Millers but cheaper. They sell them at Costco.ca

Get out of my thread! :p

I checked them out online, looks good yet missing the one thing I really want: adjustable lumber height AND depth.

Yes, I'm well aware. You're telling me you've never gone to Point Roberts to pick up a package?

AWDTurboLuvr 03-26-2011 11:28 PM

Pretty sure Living Space is the only place that you can sit and buy a Herman Miller task chair. INFORM only has their living room seating.

FWIW, I would strongly suggest going to Heritage Office furniture in South Granville and trying out the Steelcase chairs, specifically the Leap. It was between the Aeron and the Leap for me and in the end, I went with the Leap for it's better lumbar support. Plus you get more options with the Steelcase lineup.

Its on my list to do this week, yet not very high cause the Leap does not have a mesh option. I've read it breathes well, yet its still fabric on foam, and I fear it won't solve my problem of the Asian women in my office requesting 24C! * Normal is 21C.

Living Space is the only retailer, has a 3 Aerons and 1 Embody. There is a dealer downtown that has all the chairs in several configurations, yet requires an appointment to see them. I was lucky to talk my way in for 10 mins to try, and have an appointment this week to go over them in more detail.

* I'm not being racist, it really is the Asian women in my office. HR has noted that is is primarily the smaller women who want it warmer, and Asian women are smaller, and smaller people tend to feel colder, and my office is 1/3 Asian women. :p

Culverin 03-27-2011 01:07 AM

Racial profiling? Yes. But it's also true.
I've never heard a non-asian woman complain that the office was too cold.

But discrimination based on race? Nu-uh.

It's not wrong if it's true.

Also, thanks for the lead guys. :p After spending $2000 in copper cookware, let's spend another $1000 on a chair! :woot2:
fml.

You can request the seatback in the 3D knit fabric, but if they complain it's too cold, then they would actually like the Steelcase better....at least they do in my office.

It isn't for them, it is for me. If I was in charge I'd turn down the temp in the office and tell them to wear sweaters. I cannot take off clothes, yet they can put them on. :D

Hehe 03-28-2011 04:17 AM

From my experience of going through cheap staples chair-->Aeron-->Mirra-->Contessa, I'd rate the Mirra a lil better than the Aeron (for me at least. I'm 5'11 and 175lbs)

But for the price of a fully equipped Mirra, I'd suggest the Humanscale Freedom w/headrest.

If you order it from states, it's less than 1100 tax in. It's miles ahead of Mirra in terms of comfort.

dr_squat 03-28-2011 09:47 AM

I sit on an AERON at work its its worth the price! Amazing chair!

LOL! Okay, that makes sense now. Good luck on your search.

Thanks, I've read the reviews on the Humanscale Freedom and it seems to fit into the same category as the Embody chair - great chair when you're leaned back against it engaging the comfort - yet not a great task chair for sitting upright typing. Even the Humanscale Freedom site focuses more on recline strengths than upright.

If I had a more creative job where I sit back more often this would be high on my list, especially with the head rest.

If that's the case, check out on eBay for a mint Contessa.

I think it's worth every penny even at the full asking... but you can get pretty good deal on eBay (I got mine for around 500 tax in)

I stay in front of PC for 10hr+ everyday between work/leisure, the Contessa has provided me all the adjustment I have ever needed.

taylor192 03-28-2011 07:54 PM

Tried the Steelcase Leap today. Super comfy, so its going to be a tough decision. Its not mesh, so the HM Mirra is still winning.

Nice chair! Didn't know this existed, thanks for pointing it out.

They are $600 plus shipping on eBay, or $450 for a "style" aka replica. There's a few dealers in Vancouver, I'll check one out this week.

LaidbacK 03-28-2011 11:53 PM

+1 For the steelcase leap. i prefer the comfy fabric over mesh.

taylor192 04-01-2011 09:11 AM

I finally decided on a Mirra - yet not with the option I would have thought. It comes with a plastic back, or a mesh covered back. I would've thought I'd like the mesh back, yet the plastic back was just so much cooler, as in temperature.

Also scored a decent discount of > $100 with shipping included right to my office.

AWDTurboLuvr 04-01-2011 10:18 AM

Congrats man! Yeah, the Mirra is a lot cooler in warmer rooms with the plastic back. I felt like it had more support with the plastic vs. the mesh.

mmmk 04-08-2011 08:21 PM

I ended up getting the fully loaded Herman Miller Aeron at Living Space for ~$960.

Super comfortable chair, I've sat on it for 3 hours straight and my back feels no pain at all!
My favorite thing about this chair is the lumbar support (Posture Fit).

Yeah, our entire office is furnished with Aerons... and I personally don't really like them either. From time to time, I like to sit up on it cross-legged, and I don't like the hard plastic that it has on the front of the seat.

I would take a nice comfy cushioned chair anyday...

That's one reason I went with the Mirra over the Aeron, the Mirra doesn't have the hard edge, plus it has a feature to tilt the front of the seat edge down, rounding it off and making it more comfortable.

I've had cushy leather office chairs, and they are fantastically comfy yet not supportive. I guess if you're not sitting up actually doing work then you need a cushy chair

Szeto 08-18-2011 11:41 AM

hey Taylor, how's the Mirra chair? I have found a local store that carries the Herman Miller chairs but they are on the island...

Did the brand Teknion come up during your search? Their Visio chair looks good, not sure how comfy it is though...

WOW.. looks nice.. but... cant.. afford...

I've been using the exact one pictured in my office for the past 2.5 years and I can tell you that both myself and a lot of my coworkers don't like it. All of our complaints with this specific model is the back rest part is too hard. With that said, some people enjoy it though so to each their own. There are quite a few options in terms of how you want to adjust it which is nice but otherwise Id go with a different model.

The back rest is definitely harder than any fabric, hell its plastic! There is a fabric covered version with some padding, it felt better, yet I wanted cooler (as in temperature), and the plastic is definitely cooler than any fabric, mesh included.
