Help!!! Frustrated with wiring and not seeing any BASS! ****
 

okay so heres what I have:

factory head unit,
2 - 4ohm single voice coil Rockford Fosgate P2 Subs (250 w RMS)
1 - SONY XMZZR3301 (600 w RMS @ 2 ohms, 330 W RMS @ 4 ohms
bass knob with high level output that's connected to my speakers.


I connected the sony amp to RCA's which are connected to the bass knob which is connected to my front speakers (because of factory head unit)

I tried connecting one sub to the amp just straight pos to pos and neg to neg but barely got any bass.
Then I tried connecting the second sub (same idea pos to pos and neg to neg) but still minimal bass.

I tried connecting the subs to each other then the amp ( neg from sub1 to pos on sub2, then pos from sub1 to amp and neg from sub2 to the amp) but that didn't make a difference.

Thenn I tried pos from sub1 to pos sub2, neg from sub1 to neg sub2, and then pos from sub2 to amp and neg from sub2 to amp, STILL NO BASS!!!

my question is how do i friggin wire this thing properly so I can hear some bass. I know the sony amp has high level sensing output but does that make my bass knob redundant? I am probably hearing about 20 w out of the whole thing, amp is brand new nothing wrong with it subs are too. Am I missing something vital??!!

are you using factory deck? did u try turning up the gain on the amp?

if you are using highlevel in .. one of your speaker input may be out of phase. make sure the + and - connection from your car speaker to the amp is correct

I am using factory deck and I have tried turning up the gain on the amp no luck still.

When I connected my speakers to my bass knob the wiring was done correctly so all I have coming from the bass knob to the amp is the RCA wires which is just the red and white inputs on the amp. the amp itself has a high level input but I am using RCAs to the bass knob to the speakers (+) and (-) instead of going from the amps high level input to the speakers.

I have used other amps on the set up I have but this amp is a little different i'm not to familiar on wiring on it because it is internally wired parallel.

Ok, I don't quite get what you are saying here. You connected the bass knob to the speakers? The bass knob is an external amplifier gain control which remotely turns the amp's gain up and down from somewhere practical so you can reach it from where you are sitting.

The way it should be wired is the rear speakers should have wires tapped into them for signal (or fronts, it doesn't really matter all that much). These high level outputs from the factory deck should either be connected to a hi/low converter OR the high level input molex plug on the amplifier. In the latter case, you shoudn't be running any RCAs at all.

It sounds like the subs are hooked up correctly (all Positives to positive of the amp and all negatives to the negative of the amp.

Please clarify if any or all the above sounds right to you. Also, take a pic of the amp's inputs and we can tell you if its all hooked up properly.

As for the bass knob it is actually a regular hi-low converter with a bass knob on top of it. the bass knob (hi-low converter) has rca outputs and speaker wire inputs on it therefore I go from my front speakers to the hi-low converter then rcas to the amp.

I will try to take pics as soon as I can so I will be able to show you more clearly what I am talking about.

Ah ok. Well it should all be working ok now with the way you've hooked it up. You just have to make sure that the inputs to the hi/low converter are in phase like -doh- said.

Hmmmm. The only this is when I plug in one RCA from the bass knob is sounds so much louder than plugging in the two RCAs. I tried reversing the red and white rcas and connecting to white and red on the amp but still nothing.....

One of your input wires is out of phase. Either change it or just use one rca.

will it damage anything using just one rca?

Not at all.

It almost sounds like the input reference to signal ground on the LOC is not hooked up.. and its floating. maybe some pics would clarify that.
