Emergency Passport Renewal I have just found out there is a death in the family and I have to fly to Asia. Any how, I was too lazy and never renewed my passport (it expired last summer). Is there anyway Passport Canada can grant me a one-time exception for a renewal without the 10 day waiting period? I need to get on my flight tomorrow. Thanks in advance. |
I guess another way to ask my question is: If I flew to Asia with an expired Canadian Passport, would they deny me entry? The reason I ask is because I've heard from other friends that they have crossed the border into the US and back into Canada with an expired passport and didn't have any problems. Would it be different to fly internationally? Thanks. |
Um, when I renewed my passport, they asked me if I'm going somewhere soon but I'm not sure if they can give you the passport less than 24 hours. However crossing border is a lot different than going on an airplane because of the strict rules. They probably won't let you go on the airplane until you renew the passport |
Sorry to hear your lost. But they will definitely not let you on the plane (or even purchase a standby ticket at the airport) without a valid passport. I would phone a) Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), first thing you wake up. b) Or..even try phoning the NON-emergency RCMP line and ask for their advice. c) Emergencies 24/7 http://www.voyage.gc.ca/contact/menu-eng.asp |
You can definitely get it expedited. Just go the passport office and talk to them about it. I got my passport in 1 hour at the Canadian consulate in Hong Kong, when I had a flight that day but didn't realize my passport was lost until earlier that morning. I explained the situation, filled out the form, supplied the photos, and I was able to make the flight later that day. |

You need to get down to the passport office with new photos like... ASAP. They can do it in 24 hours, you will have to go pick it up tomorrow yourself and the earlier in the day you get there the more likely they'll be able to do it for your. I think it's about $250. |

Best to just not let your passport expire. |

Also, it helped that my guarantor was available to confirm my identity immediately. |
