just a thought, could this help?

so i was chatting with my father-in-law and he was ranting about a recent incident he had with an officer while being pulled over. now i wasn't there but i can tell you that my father-in-law doesn't speak the best english and can be hard to understand sometimes so a misscomunication in this situation is the most likely cause but he claims the officer was lieing about where he was parked and what he "witnessed" my father in law doing. ended up no ticket but i was just curious with all the phones around are we as drivers within our rights to record the conversation? could i pull out my cell and record the whole thing and then if there was some kind of discrepency could that be used in court as evidence?

my thinking is that as long as he knows and is informed its being recorded, then its fine.

Actually, IIRC for Canadian law at least, only one party needs to know that they are being recorded for it to be legal.

^that is my understanding as well.

That's my understanding as well... and if you're recording your own conversation, that is one party's consent.

People need to do this more often, as well as record on video. I find that to often police feel that they can say or do what they want because its rare that their conversation will ever be heard by anyone else.

Only maried Cops truely know that feeling. :)

Actually having portions of a long conversation, taken out of context and being misquoted, while being relayed back in a complaint is quite common. That's one reason why cop cars have video cameras in them.
