24 hour mcdonalds.
Goto the ones with 2nd floors, those can be pretty empty at night.

There is also at least one real 24hr cafe on main st in vancouver, forget the name.

Waves sucks as all the ones I know now close at 11 or 12

why would ANYONE start up a biz to cater to studying students?

Students are cheap therefore no money. By keeping the premises silent/low noise, you drive you customers to the competition.

edit: feel like Kevin O'Leary on Dragons Den..

do such places exist, with dedicated silent areas other than libraries? I know there are a number of places outside of libraries/school (ex. The Grind) where students go to study but I didnt think they technicaly have any dedicated silent areas.

which uni do you go to? if sfu, there's always jumbo cup on hastings down the mountain.... that place is usually pretty quiet during the afternoons...

Try going to Calhoun's on West Broadway. I used to work there as a barista for over 3 years :)

i went a day before my final last semes.. it was me and the kid who worked there for a good 6 hours..

from like 4pm-10pm there were like 3 customers.. he even left me alone there for like 10 minutes to go buy food..

but everytime i go buy there now it looks like they took away the tables.. and closed off half the place..

your room, computer off, earplugs in, phone face down on silent.

i don't know how people can study outside, i just start staring at everything that's unfamiliar, which is every single thing around me. especially people. that plus it's noisy as fuck.

with my bed right behind me looking oh-so-comfy and welcoming :fullofwin: ... not that I haven't fallen asleep when studying outside, but it's a lot harder to haha
and the kitchen just a 10second walk away filled with free food... going out makes me pay for that shit, which I'd rather not do LOL

But when it's crunch time, those distractions mean nothing. I'm on lock down in my room

Waves on Kingsway closes at 11 I think, however during finals time, the owner told us we could sit at the table we were at as long as we wanted. I heard him tell an older man who was asking who all the kids were that we all needed to be studying.
