Discount Tire America thumbs up

I was not expecting Discount Tire in Bellingham to match tire rack to the penny. Pretty awesome since they are close, have them in stock and there is no waiting for them to arrive VIA shipping. This was on a R-compound race tire as well. Just though I'd let people know. I'm over tire rack after having a few bad experiences with dated tires being sold as new. This makes life easier!

I picked up some Bridgstone RE760's in 225/17/45 and 255/17/40 and they arrived at my door in 6 days. Price was about 400.00 cheaper for all four than anywhere else I could find. All the fees are also included and stated on thier web site (duty, taxes).

From Discount Tire online.

I bought tires from Discount Tire Direct. Super fast shipping, got it in 4 days.

ilvtofu 04-07-2011 12:01 PM

I got my wheels & tires from them ... twice! Ordering direct on the phone was a great experience and they saved me $200 from buying elsewhere

RevRav 04-07-2011 02:39 PM

Just want to clarify... Discount Tire America and Discount Tire Direct might be the same parent company...but they operate separately right? or are they the same?

Searching for the same car, same tires, same size....both sites offered different pricing.

+1 to DTD. Mine were cheaper than Tirerack.

DTD is online only I think.

Hondaracer 04-07-2011 02:48 PM

so these places, do they deliver to your house or do you go to bellingham to pick them up?

if you go to the states can u get away with having your tires swapped and driving back across?

shenmecar 04-07-2011 02:54 PM

I think Discount Tire America operates as a shop you order tires online, drive to the shop, get it mounted.

Discount Tire Direct operates like Tire Rack where you order and get it delivered to your door.

Correct me if im wrong!

falcon 04-07-2011 04:08 PM

Correct

It's free shipping to the states, but even with DTD if u ship to point roberts, there is a garage that will swap your tires out down there too and throw your old ones away for you. I got them with wheels so couldn't sneak them past but at least if u ship to mailbox it's only about $20 for storage but u save on shipping+potential brokerage even if you get taxed

Thats if they dont chose to report ur plate to customs..

Fyi mountingand balancing in the states is much cheaper. $8 per wheel is a steal compared to $30 in vancouver shops.

4 Years ago I found some tires on their site and decided to call them to verify that they had them. I was planning on driving down, swapping and coming back. Told the guy I was coming from up here and wanted to verify, he never had them, but he ordered them and got them there in time for my day off and knocked off another $10/tire over the phone. Installed and out of there in a little over an hour. And I saved close to $600:fullofwin: by going down there. Some shit is rediculously priced in Canada, we just don't have the buying power.

They don't. I never had this problem. It's an old wives tale. A company's goal is to make money, and sell you their product. Calling ahead and informing the border of your plates is simply un-necessary and stupid. They have nothing to gain by doing so, and everything to lose.

Discount Tire Direct rocks. I have ordered a few times from them.

Recently bought a 20" Hankook from them. For Canadian buyers they include the UPS customs/brokerage/GST etc cost so you pay nothing at the door. Love that!

Also I bought a 215/35/19 Falken ST115 from them a couple years ago. I had one get a bulge in the inside sidewall of the tire and wasn't even sure if it was the one tire I had purchased from them. They said it didn't matter and sent me a new tire for the cost of shipping and a replacement certificate. (I hadn't even bought a replacement certificate and it was 2 months later!)

Thanks for the info. Just ordered a set of tires from DTD shipped to Point Roberts, saved myself $240 so far ... we'll see if I get nabbed for customs. If so, I call it HST, if not, even a better bonus !! Like what others said, better prices than TR ... I thought they were good on prices but DTD beat them!

blueworm 04-09-2011 12:35 AM

are there any coupons or promotions going on?

wasabisashimi 04-12-2011 11:35 AM

I called discount tire in bellingham, they want $3.5 for enviro and old tire disposal fee, plus 19.99 for mount and balance.

Does this sound right? Seems alot for install and enviro

whitev70r 04-14-2011 10:07 AM

Just wanted to give some props for a place I found in Richmond. PTU Automotive, #160 - 2268 No. 5 Road. 604-247-0800. Guy (Kwok) charges only $50 to install standard 17" tires. Pretty conscientious, pleasant, and did a great job. I gave him a little extra cuz I called around and the going rate for install, balance, and mount is like $20 per wheel ... still came ahead.

That's the issue. Too many people complain about how stuff is expensive here but it's all economics.
