Synthetic Oil Q

So here's the deal. My civic burns a little bit of oil every morning when i start it so every week i top it up just so i dont run it low. the last time i did an oil change i just used 5w30 regular oil. i ended up finding a couple sealed bottles at work that no body wanted cuz it wasnt oem mazda.

basically i wanna know would it be ok to top up my oil with synthetic oil or will that kill my motor? also i cant remember if it was 5w30 or 10w30 but would that matter? also i read somewhere that using a higher viscosity oil could potentially lessen or eliminate the burning of my oil? any opinions would be awesome.thanks.

sweet. would you happen to know if using a higher viscosity oil will lessen or stop burning of oil?

^generally, yes.

But you lose out on responsiveness as well as mileage.
