Finding a new job while currently employed
 

I was just wondering what people have done to get time off from thier current job to go for interviews and what not for a new job? I'm in the process of looking for new work, but I don't want my current employer to know I'm looking for obvious reasons. What's the best way to go about this?

Lie.

To be bluntly honest I lie and say I have a doctor's appointment if it's short notice. If I have enough time to plan ahead I just book the day off and try not to explain.

I generally don't like dishonesty but there's some situations, like these, where if your employer knows you're shopping around it could lead to dire consequences so what else can you do?

call in sick

Say you have a dr.'s appointment, call in sick, book the day off as a holiday.

if you don't want to raise an issue, take fridays off or take two days off so it doesn't seem like you're taking a day off.

it's not a huge issue man, sick days, doctor's appointment are what's its for.

Book the day off if you can. State that it's for personal reasons if they ask. If you can't do that, call in sick. Doctors notes are $10.

If you can, be honest with the new possible employer. Tell them you already have a job and if you can reschedule for a time that is good for you aswell.

Only do this if you cannot risk calling in sick though. I've had to do this myself, and it worked out for me.

just book the day off. I mean if the new jobs do want to interview you they are most likely going to give you some sort of notice. Most jobs interview I been to usually give me 4 to 5 business days notice

if its just one time say you have a doctors appointment, go during lunch, or if you work early or late, so either before or after you work. If you plan on dressing up for your interview, i would suggest storing your clothes somewhere else, either with a friend, or anywhere else you can store it so people dont notice.

If youre going for more than ove interview i would suggest trying to plan them on the same day, and call in sick or take the day off.

Just be careful not to make it obvious. If you're suddenly taking a lot of time off for doctor apointments, taking sick days, etc people might catch on.

Yeah it's a nasty one. What I used to do is go outside business hours, then ask to leave your current job early, or start a bit later in the morning. Most employers (the ones you're applying for) understand that you're trying to interview without screwing over your current job. I've ever only had 1 where HR were a bunch of pricks with a "we have a slot at 2pm, take it or leave it" mentality.
