Asus G73Jh is a good choice with great warranty and specs but i'd still take a desktop over a laptop.

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys, really appreciated. I haven't purchased anything yet, but I am leaning towards getting the new Alienware M18X. Seems pretty nice.

thinking of getting either a xps15 or alienware M14x. Mainly using it to play some RPG games and Diablo3 when it is out.

I do have a gaming desktop so I can always use that at home.

Still deciding becasue I want to use the laptop at work in the future and able to game decently as well. XPS seems good but is lacking in graphcis. Ailenware is great but the laptop doesn't look too professional when compare to other laptops.........

from experience of 2 gaming notebooks. the only purpose is to game for short bursts while your away from home. constantly gaming on a laptop in excess of 2hrs at a time drastically shortens the life of the laptop. So don't be surprised if your laptop can't game after a year of gaming like its a desktop. don't get me wrong it will still work but you'll find it overheats a lot faster.

I doubt any extended warranty is going to cover extended gaming sessions over the course of year because that will simply fall under normal wear and tear and/or abuse.

If you play any games that are graphically intensive and plan on playing for 3+ hours on a regular/almost daily basis get yourself a really good desktop to handle games at max settings and an average laptop that will handle the same game at min settings for your on the road gaming.

my 2 cents.

You might get away having a small air conditioner blow air right through your laptop. (above the keyboard and underneath the base in 1 direction ) that will keep everything nice and ice cold, but it'll be loud and your hands will be super cold .

Pull the triggle and got the alienwareMX14
Intel® Core™ i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.9GHz w/Turbo Boost, 6MB Cache)
Memory 6GB DDR3 at 1600MHz
A/C Adapter Alienware M14X 150W A/C Adapter
Display Panel 14.0" High Def+ (900p/1600x900) with WLED backlight
Video Card 1.5GB DDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M using NVIDIA Optimus™ technology
Hard Drive 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s
with tax and everything comes to about $1500 now the question is should I keep my desktop or not lol.

EDIT Cancel the order lol. Dell is confusing to deal with. First their website keep saying is on production, then they left me a message with the product delivery page. I contacted them and they said is in production. I wanted to make some changes to order but they said no. Anyways they keep sending me E-mails saying is on time Then I got An E-mail today saying it will be late. I got all confuse so I call them about it. The lady on the other line said everything is fine and blah blah blah even give me a tracking number.

I use the tracking number and nothing so I call again and this other dude tells me is still in production and they have no idea when it will get ship out. I got piss off at that point and just want to cancel it. He dares to tell me the billing dept and close and it is open from 8 to 4EST. I tell him it is around 12:30pm so there is no way it is close. He refuse to transfer me and hung up on me. I call again request to speak to someone higher up. Again the refuse so I plain tell them if the order is not cancel I will do it through my credit card compnay. Got trasnfer to a supervisor and she cancel the order for me apolgize and yea.

Never dealing with dell again.

^^ Not sure if MSI gaming laptop is good. Got out of their main stream laptop and I can tell you their screen sucks. Is so bad that even my 7years LCD have better picture quality as well as color. The screen on my MSI laptop just seem so wash up in colors as well as the viewing angle is so terrible.

I was thinking of getting a MSI gaming laptop for a bit. Their price seems decent but I don't want to risk it.

I was told to wait for a newer version of the video cards to come out on the M18X for some reason, can't remember what it was, something about them being outdated. Plus, the games I am looking forward to are not coming out for a bit, I figure I can wait it out.

^^ There have been some issue with the alien ware video cards. The ones they are using now some people say the performance is not as good as the old generation ones.

Also, they have this thing where if you aren't doing something graphics intense the system switchs to the Intel chip which saves power. However, there are often times when the system does switch for you. For me when I plan The Wither on the M14x it keeps saying min system requirement not meet. I even add The witcher to Nvida settings to use 3-D graphics but it never switch same with a few other games I try.

In the end I return mine party coz of that and partly coz of Dell's shitty customer services which. Seems like everyone I talk at dell have no idea what's going on with my orders and stuff. When ever I call in to ask I get a different answer. What's more funny is that I got my laptop last Wednesday and I got an E-mail form Dell on Friday saying it is dealy and they are not sure when it will be delivery. LOL that was the last strew for me. If they aren't even sure if your laptop is shipped or not, I don't trust thier tech support or what they put in the laptop.

They don't mind the sacrifice of the "full experience" for the advantage of being able to game anywhere.

I personally can't do it. I need my full experience with the big monitor, good surround sound speakers, etc.

That being said, all the hardcore gaming PC setups have efficient cooling with good heatsinks and fans.
I find it tough to have all that in a laptop due to physical size restrictions. Life expectancy will probably be shorter in a gaming laptop.

one thing i hate about the xps i use is the power adapter. it's HUGE, heavy, and the cable used is not a standard one with other dells. it's 2 years old though so I'm not sure if they've changed it since then.

FYI - This laptop was $549.99 2 weeks ago... and i remember it being that price for more than one occasion.

If you guys are in the market for a lower end gaming laptop, you should wait for the new AMD Llano models to come out in the next couple of weeks. The processors are barely improved over the current generation in raw processing power but they come with integrated graphics that are as good as a mobility 5650 (which is enough to play games at ~medium detail). These should run < $650.

Went and pick up my Toshiba Satellite A660-042 today. Had a chance to play around with it a little bit.

Compare to the Alienware I have to say the m14x beat it by a mile. Toshiba's keyboard doesn't feel as soild and smooth as as Alienware''s rubbery keyboard. Keyboard lighting on Toshiba seems to make the plastic key look even more ugly.

Toshiba seems to give off more heat than Alienware. In terms on screen birghtness and viewing angle I find both to be pretty much the same (will need to do more testing later on). However Alienware's screen resolution is higher than Toshiba (1080 VS 720) but Toshiba have the 3D ready Video card in it (GTS350 I believe) and have a pair of 3d glasses included.

In terms of weight both feels the same. From just feeling and holding the case it seems the Alienware can take more abuse where the Toshiba might break easier. The Alienware looks a lot cooler but Toshiba looks a lot more professional.

Haven't try any gaming on it yet. Overall, I would say the Alienware is better but also cost more (Toshiba cost me $1200 with tax while the Alienware cost over $1500)

I was orginally thinking of getting the Ausus G series. Then I saw NCIX have a surpise sale for A660-042 for 995. Didn't really like the specs but I do like the 3D feature and a Blue Ray player included. Hopefully the 3D asspect is decent.

There isn't much reviews but from what I gather 3D gaming seems pretty decent on A660-042.
