Audio help - free beer I promise

1. I've split my 2 tv's with a hdmi splitter but have lost audio on both tv's. I still have audio on my 5.1 via optical cable->shawbox->receiver
1.1 Any chance I can regain the audio on the tv's?
1.2 When I'm showing the game, the audio is only coming from the center speaker (surround sound option I guess), is there a way to have all the sound playing on all 5 speakers?

2. I have an iphone with a 3.5mm jack into the receiver, it works great, but only plays as a 2.1
2.1 Is there a chance to have this work with the 5.1 speakers?

Thanks.

take the rca out from the shaw box, put a splitter on it and run it to the tvs

i would take analogue audio out of the receiver and plug that into a amplifier and plug the speakers into that

why would sound from all speakers on a 5.1 broadcast? it defeats the purpose of surround sound. with 5.1 the vocals come from the center and other sound ie music & sound effects come the other speakers.

i would plug the iphone into a aux in on that analogue amplifier

Thanks.

You need an HDMI splitter that specifically says supports both audio and video. Not every splitter does, and not every splitter that says it supports both video and audio, will support all systems. This is the best way to do so, with fewer cables and keeping the audio digital.

You can do it via analog as suggested above, bu then you are dealing with a whole new set of cables and splitters and such. And it will be in analog.

You have to enable the proper Dolby Digital output on the Shawbox and have the receiver set properly.

Only if your receiver supports it with the proper sound profile (e.g. Dolby Pro Logic II or DTS Matrix). If it is a newer model it most likely does.

Thanks.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

No jokes about the beer, come to the resto and mention RS. Hopefully I'll have the audio fixed by then.
