Firefox 4.01 crashes

I just installed firefox 4.01 and it crashes all the time.It crashes almost every 15-20 minutes. I have used firefox for years and never had any issues. I googled the issue and there are tons of people reporting it. Has anyone on here had this problem and if so what did you do to resolve the problem.

ya i was getting the same issue. I ended up uninstalling it and dling the previous version. Did yours lag when opening multiple tabs? If I opend too many browsers at the same time it would crash........

No problems for me thus far, but again, I don't open that many tabs at once.

I'm sticking with ver 3.6.17 . Tried 4 and didn't like it. Had lots of crashes too.

GodZilla 05-06-2011 07:08 PM

I just reinstalled 3.6 and no issues.
I usually have 5-6 tabs at times open and never had issues. I think it is 4.01 that is the problem. I am testing by doing the same tabs that causes the crashes and no issues. So do not try the new one or you might have crashes as well.

I, too, would recommend Google Chrome; however, its addons are horrendous at blocking flash ads. Firefox 4.0 is much better in that regard, has better site compatibility, and nearly just as fast at page loading.

I've had no crashes so far....using it on a 17" Macbook Pro.

Not a single crash for me. Been using it ever since release date on 3 comps.

Just read that Firefox 4.01 has extreme memory leak issues for some users. I didn't experience this in the first several days, but it has now become unusable, hogging like 512MB of RAM after a half-day usage.

Firefox has always used a lot of ram. I'm sitting at 425mb but still stable and fully usable.

I suggest you give Chrome or IE9 a shot then. You would instantly feel the snappiness. At that much memory, it's sluggish, it uses more memory than Photoshop. I am running 4GB RAM on a AMD X4 630 OC 3.5GHz, not a beast after a year, but ain't no weaksauce neither.

Furthermore, I know Firefox has always been a memory hog compared to other browsers, but to be using up 512MB of RAM is just inexcusable, version 3.6 used nowhere near as much. At this rate, Opera would be even a better browser, and no one uses that.

Firefox 3 and 4 feel like they use the same amount of memory to me. 3-400mb on average. I usually have 10-20 tabs open. As I said I feel no sluggishness both on my work desktop 4gb ram and my home desktop 8gb ram. I'm not looking to switch as it works perfect for me. Just pointing out that me and a lot of others don't seem to have any problems.

Ronin 05-13-2011 11:07 PM

I use FF4. No real problems for me.

way2quik 05-14-2011 10:21 PM

FF4 works perfectly fine for me too.

Firefox 5 slips out ahead of schedule, gets official June 21st

As as side note, i'm still on 3.6.17, because my speed dial (6x10) refuses to be snappy on anything newer. Whenever I open a new tab with speed dial, all other tabs are non-responsive.
