Did my identity get stolen? ok so while i was using my email today, i get an message from amazon pop up. it says thank you for purchasing a $15 gift card. i was like "WTF?" i go log into my Amazon account and sure enough there's a $15 GC purchase. i immediately call Amazon and my CC company. CC company (Visa) knows nothing. the CC used was a Visa but I only have 1 Visa, and the last 4 digits of the card don't match mine. so how did they hack my Amazon account and use a CC that wasnt registered to that Amazon account? Amazon couldnt give me any more specific info regarding the card used, except the expiry date. they said their investigator would call me in 24 hrs. meanwhile i had to call all kinds of credit places to put a fraud note on my credit report. Any ideas WTF happened? |
that's weird. if somebody had your info you'd think they'd purchase more then $15 |

well if the person is capable of stealing many credit cards, i don't think it is a stupid plan of action. make a bigger purchase then ditch the card. if the $15 card was charged on your visa, then something is wrong. however if it simply states you purchased one, and it doesnt show on your visa, i would think that amazon got something wrong. id still dbl, triple check. |
^ that's what i was thinking too |
the Visa CC # is completely different than the one in my hand. |
If I were you I would still check my bank and credit card statements for unusual actitivity. But more over I would do a credit check on myself and see if there's any suspicious delinquent charges or credit cards that come up that you don't possess. When I had my ID stolen, someone took a credit card out in my name and used it then didn't pay the bill. A blemish that's STILL on my credit history no matter how many papers I sign saying it wasn't me. |
Hmm, that IS weird... based on the information stated, it basically looks like someone got access to your Amazon account only. I would think your credit cards and everything else is safe. I would change passwords for all your other online accounts if they happen to use the same password though. |
Sounds like somebody took out a credit card in you name and somehow got into your Amazon account. |
