South Korea with Blackberry sooooo I will be going to South Korea in few weeks, im with ROGERS and i have blackberry torch, wondering if i can use my phone there if its unlocked. and what company should i use when i get there? would i be able to use my BBM? and what not.... any info would be great, i have no idea how this thing works and TIA!! |
Your blackberry will be utilizing their 3G 2100 network; however, if you want to use BBM (BIS), you will need to stick with Rogers, doing so will incur expensive data roaming fees. Otherwise, you can unlock your torch, and use regular voice and data there. BBM (BIS) will not work with any 3rd party SIM besides your primary provider (Rogers). I suggest you get a SIM card there (SK Telecom, for example), and use WhatsApp (or any other messenging client). BBM will cost you an arm and a leg. |
Thanks for the info! yeah i guess i will stick with whatsapp! getting a sim card there, expensive? well can not be more expensive than Rogers's data roaming fee. |
Data and Voice prepaid plans are dirt cheap in Asia. Something like 5 bucks can get you like 500-1000 minutes. Look into it. |
dont know about prepaid but a 50$ plan gets you 300min 300 text unlimited data. and in korea only the caller pays for the call. (free incoming) 30$ will get u 150min, 200 text, 100mb. if u dont plan to use phone that much u can just get prepaid and get people to call u. to use ur phone i think u need to register it with korea imei whitelist, unless korea has the exact same model ex:iphones |

I did some googling before I saw this, and what I found out was that all Korean carriers have a white list, ie only phones sold through them can be registered on their network, so I can't buy a sim card and plug in my unlocked phone. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=536457 |
