Fido to Bell I'm thinking of moving my number over to Bell but I'm just wondering how good is the reception? Or should I stay with Fido? However, I'm hard of hearing and Fido won't provide me some cheaper add-ons... Unless I can try harder... I want something like 50 mins and unlimited evening/weekends, 2500/unlimited text messages, 500mb Data plan, and of course caller id... Everything under 50ish bucks.. I'm currently using a blackberry bold if that helps... EDIT: I asked them If i can have texting and data plan only but they won't let me have it because of their "policy" or some shit. |
im with fido and i have something similar. I get 200 minutes, unlimited even/weekend, 2500 texts which is good enough for me, callerid/voicemail, and 6gb of data (same price as 1gb) and i pay 57 tax in! |
I'm with Bell, formerly w/ Rogers ... Bell's network is quick in Greater Vancouver, but is super slow in less densely populated areas (i.e. Vancouver Island). Phone coverage is much better than Rogers, IME ... |
Woow, my currently plan is 100 mins with unlimited weekends/nights with 1gb data plan, caller id, and unlimited texting (just changed plans few weeks ago) came out 77 bucks. FML. Why can't cell providers supports deaf and hard of hearing community...? -sighs- Posted via RS Mobile EDIT: $25 for talk, $30 for data, $7 for caller id total 62 plus taxes, so it should be 70 bucks but i don't get it why they charged me 77...? |
if you call fido and ask for the 6gb they give it for 30 dollars, which is the same price of 1gb. |
I'm with Fido right now and I love them. I got 100 anytime mins, unlimited text, free after 7pm, call id, and data. But with data, it starts at $10 for 100mb, then once u go over 100mb, it jumps to $15 for the next bracket, all the way up to $25 for 1GB, so u only pay for what you use! and this data add-on offer is only available over the phone i think. Not sure how good Bell's reception is, but my friend uses Fido and he says he gets dropped calls quite often, but he uses his minutes a lot. Whereas i have almost never had a dropped call with Fido, but then again i dont use minutes that much. |
I used to have Rogers and switched to Bell and what a mistake that was.... Bell has some huge areas with zero reception so be warned. They go on and on they have the best network but its a joke. Make sure you find a friend with bell and verify your home has reception. |
Fido rocks I have city fido unlimited all free n van to aldergrove. Unlimited txt msg (international also) for 40$ and 6 gig data for 30, after taxes I pay around 78$. Bell has better reception (used to 4 years ago) but I'm for fido :) Posted via RS Mobile |
Bump, anybody? I need to get tips! |
Why do you want to move to Bell? |
Because... I could hear little MORE better while using Bell, no mystery noises interring betweens calls, unlikely fido does sometimes... The plans seems a little cheaper to me compare to Fido.. |
Nothing wrong with Bell. I've been with the 4 years, and find them great for my needs. Full reception in my area, and my phone bill is $53 tax incl for a 6GB data plan. |

i heard bad stuff about bell. my friends always get dropped calls whenever i talk to them on the phone. they regret making the switch from fido to bell. then again, there's pros and cons for every company, lol. |
Im with fido and i have never had any problems with them. If you want to lower the price of your plan, I suggest giving customer relations a call. They may give you a deal depending on your contract's expiry date (tons of info on the fido retentions thread). As for the $6.95 they're charging you for System Access Fee, also give customer relations a call and ask for them to waive it if they don't give you a better deal. Apparently, the government no longer charges for this fee and anybody being charged is just giving cellphone carriers pure profit. I currently have 200 weekday minutes, unlimited evenings and weekends, 2500 texts, fido to fido, 500mb data for $35 + tax so I'm sure they'll be able to do something about your plan. My girlfriend is with Bell and it seems like Bell's reception is worse than Fido's in the lower mainland (just my opinion). We both have the iphone 4 and most of the time, Fido has more bars when we compare reception side by side. |

talk to Fido retentions to get a better plan. Have something to compare to before you call and be ready to negotiate. I used wind and mobilicity plans to compare with and asked what was the best they could do. Call after 8pm, that way if you are the retentions last caller, they will more likely give you what you want. Check out www.howardforums.com for details on anything cell related. http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php/48-Fido |
you could check out the fido retentions thread here as well |
Is there a way to chat with them online instead of calling them because I have a hard of hearing? |
No. |
:fuuuuu: I asked one of the sale associate, they won't help me to settle my plan... |
Put the phone up to your ear on speaker phone. |
I had heard that Bell had a lot of dropped calls and poor reception as well but I switched over regardless from Fido in early January and its been really smooth thus far. Was also able to negotiate with Bell customer service for some extra add-ons and what not as well. |
check fido rentention thread.. im paying 50 + taxes (which is exactly what you wished to pay and at a better plan) 200 day time min unl. evening and weekend fido to fido free 2500 txt msg 6gb data .. my work phone is under BELL, normally its pretty good but ive had issue with their network for sending/reciving emails from time to time.. not happy at all |
if you're not a goody two-shoes afraid of cheating the system then I can tell you bell has the best corporate plans provided you can find a dealer to hook you up. Asian places/anywhere desperately looking for new activations are the best bet. If you care about data, find a plan that has unlimited mobile browser (doesn't exist anymore) grandfathered in and you're set for life assuming you renew every 3 years. YES, UMB works on smartphones (blackberries may be an exception not 100% sure). Always has, always will. Of course if you're the "above board" kinda person who still wants data, you can take over someone else's plan who has UMB grandfathered in. Just my advice. |
