Question about stretched tires Hi revscene, So i just picked up a set of rims for my 08 TL-S The set up came off an IS350 its running 255/35/19 rear and 225//35/19 front the front tires are stretched a little and my question is should i worry about anything since my car is FWD? like if i were taking a corner too fast would the tire pop out or anything? thx p.s. rims are 19X9 |
just buy wider tires for the front. It'll work better and you won't look like a fool! lol. |
From my old set of wheels, 19x8, I used 235/35/19 and it was recommended and still had a good cushion to protect the rim edge (or lip)...but with yours at 225 for a 9" width...it sounds like theres a mild stretch. My car should have the same setup as yours since its both a J-series V6 motor...so the tire size/weight recommendation should be similar. You can check tirerack.com to be sure. If you are worried for safety, try purchasing 235 just to be sure. Better safe than sorry. Good luck! |
225/35 would be fairly stretched on a 9" wide wheel. Have you test fitted everything? 255's may be wide for the car (I'm not 100% sure about tl's). You'll probably find that a set of 235 or 245's will fit quite well. Posted via RS Mobile |
225s are basically nothing for stretch on that wheel. On my old corrado I ran 195/40s on a 16x9, never had a problem with braking beads or anything like that. One thing though, with that sort of stagger you will probably end up with massive understeer. Check what sort of clearance you have and what stock tire size is. I'd honestly suggest downsizing the rear before I'd suggest upsizing the front, assuming that you might not be able to fit much more tire under the front fenders. |
Thx for the replies yah everything fits well on the car just curious if there would be any issues with a FWD car with smaller stretched tires in front I would change the front tires to 235 but they have like 90% thread left soo gotta use it up first ! :P |
^^ Shouldnt be a huge problem with 225, just drive safe... I remember a customer of mine used 215/35/19 on a 8 or 8.5" wide rim...it stretched but overall was usable to an extent. Have fun! |
I'm running 215/35 on a 18x8.5 right now. Stretch is just a bit, a nice blend of looks and protection. No rim protection from the sidewall though. Gotta be careful when parking and watch out for any potholes. :twirleye: |
I have a friend with a Miata who used to run 195/50s on a 15x10 rim, stupid amount of stretch! Definitely just keep running it and maybe go wider when you replace the tires :) |
225 on a 9inch is barely a stretch. I am running 215 on a 9.5inch and that would be a stretch. Posted via RS Mobile |
