Acer a500 Tablet?

Anyone got one?

I was playing with it at NCIX today and it's a cute little thing that does most of what I want it to do. Just wondering if anyone's used one extensively yet.

Seeing as it's $100 more than the Transformer I don't think it's gonna be a hot seller till the price drops. The screen is not as nice as the Transformer but the brushed aluminum is very nice.

TheNewGirl 06-01-2011 07:22 AM

Yeah the Transformer's a lot buggier though while the Acer seems smooth and finished (and Acer has a lot of good will with me at least, I've never had an issue with their products).

^ I guess Acer products are hit and miss?

I remember my high school CAD lab's brand new computers (Which I helped unbox) just rebooted randomly because of motherboard and ram failures

Then there's my friend's monitor... holy hell that thing was like a different colour of the rainbow each day

All bugs should have been resolved with 3.1 OS update.

I have no issues with Acer as I use their TimelineX laptops myself.

^ no man... the 3.1 update did more harm than good imo

Really? That sux. I haven't really been following.

TheNewGirl 06-01-2011 02:57 PM

Yeah THAT is why I'm reluctant to go with the Transformer.

As for Acer, your experience must have been ages ago Picard. I've never had a problem with an acer product and I've been using them pretty steadily for 10 years.

JesseBlue 06-01-2011 08:04 PM

what is it that you want to do with the unit? with that being said at $100 cheaper for the transformer, even with bugs will it do what you want it to do?

CP.AR 06-02-2011 10:57 AM

I mean, the bugs in the transformer aren't that big of a deal.
The biggest bug that stands right now is the fact that typing seems "sluggish" when typing on a complex document or webpage. Browsing is quick and snappy though

The other "bug" that came with the 3.1 update was the missing gmail application, but that is fixable if you simply do a device reset.

I'd still go with the transformer over the iconia tab, simply just because it's cheaper and MUCH lighter

Costco now carries the Motorola Xoom. I think it was $529 32gb model. Feels good and if u don't like it.. return it lol.

TheNewGirl 06-02-2011 11:42 AM

Mostly I'm gonna be using it for entertainment while traveling over the summer.

Must be able to use kobo books, netflix and have a good battery life.. :P

I don't like the Xoom, we have them here at the office. I'm waffling mostly between the Transformer and Acer. Yeah the Transformer IS lighter. I frankly don't care much for the keyboard since I don't plan on doing a wack load of typing on it. Though the extra battery in it is a perk.

!MiKrofT 06-02-2011 08:33 PM

What's wrong with the Xoom? It feels every bit as good as the Iconia in terms of build quality and weight. And they all pretty much stock Honeycomb so there shouldn't be very many software differences.

Tablets should attain at least 8hours of battery life or more which I think most of them do. My Samsung Galaxy Tab gets almost 10hours on an older processor.

TheNewGirl 06-17-2011 07:23 AM

I picked up the Iconia yesterday. I was going to go for a Transformer but again they were back ordered and I need something to entertain the kids for a trip this week.

It is a lovely system. Works fast. Streams video like a dream. No netflix app for andriod yet, that's really my only downer on it so far but that's apparently going to be remedied soon. It's battery for continual use (I think egaget tested it with a constantly looping video, wifi and push email) is about 7 hours. Which frankly is plenty. MUCH more then my laptop gets me.

There was a new update as soon as I got it set up and I think that will cure most if not all of the early bugs (I have yet to find any).

So so far I give it a thumbs up.

What do u mean no netflix?

TheNewGirl 06-17-2011 01:44 PM

Oh that just came out like 2 days ago! It wasn't in the market when I checked last night but I'll install when I get home and see how it works.

Thanks!

!MiKrofT 06-17-2011 06:17 PM

It might be cause your market is filtering apps
