Rig Config Help Ok, so I'm getting an Intel 320 Series 120GB SSD pretty soon (yay deals at work) and I want to figure out how to re-configure my hard drive setup. As it stands right now: 1TB WD Black as OS drive/main drive 2 x 1.5TB WD Green as RAID 0 for storage. How should I configure the new setup? First time using SSD. The RAID drives are about half-filled. |

I'd sell the three drives and get multiples of low powered 2TB WD, samsung, or hitachi. hope the links help. |
I store a lot of RAW image files, but to be honest so far it is more like a storage place than anything else. Why not just keep the RAID as is and not shell out for a new set of hard drives? I just have to make it so that programs are now installed on the RAID array instead of the SSD I guess? Posted via RS Mobile |
just get a SSD for OS install and leave the rest as storage |
the SSD you got > the WD greens in RAID. you'd want your OS and programs on the SSD. i just wasn't sure there is a need for a RAID setup, were the greens chosen because of their cost? i edit RAW images from a non-RAID 2TB green and i didn't think it's slow at all... |
green drives arent good for RAID 0 in the first place |
Install the OS and all large/slow-loading programs on the SSD. Programs like Office, Photoshop, and games. Smaller things like twitter apps, etc can go on the WD Black. Store the important files on the 1.5 TB drives, but use RAID1, not RAID0. RAID0 is a waste for mechanical drives. Especially slow ones like WD Green. |
