Keeping in mind the courts have upheld speeding convictions based solely on visual speed estimation, how does using a laser jammer make it more difficult for you to obtain a visual speed estimate?

Thats got to be one of the stupidest questions you've posted in a long time... The laser verifies the actual speed being traveled. The visual estimation is just a part of using the laser to obtain the actual speed. So while in some cases a visual estimate is plenty, it is just a single step in an entire process when using the laser.

My point is that you don't NEED laser to obtain my speed, visual estimation is good enough for a conviction. A laser jammer doesn't in any way obstruct an officer's duties to gather enough evidence for a speeding conviction to be upheld.

But you always give best evidence available. If you have a laser, you don't give only a visual estimate, which for most people is +/- 5km/hr, when you can have an exact number measured by the laser.

Besides, you'd be the first person to jump all over any officer giving a vehicle impound for excessive speed measured by visual estimation when a laser was there and available.

Like he said...we use a visual estimate to validate the reading on the Laser/Radar unit. Testifying that the estimated speed was consistant with the Laser readings adds legal weight to the resulting charge....otherwise someone could say that the reading was the result of some sort of error and you did nothing to verify it. I would imagine the JP and the defendant would want to know why you did not use the Laser and just estimated instead. The Laser is accurrate to within 1 kmh while visual estimations can vary plus or minus an approximate speed.

I don't think you know the meaning of the word. Trolling != debating.

How? I decided to just get a radar detector, no jammer. I'm not afraid of speed traps anyways
