I've been re-building the showers in my building for the past year as part of a sweeping re-hab on the rental units. I use, always 100% cement board. It's heavy, its dirty and it cuts like crap...but, when its up its like a bomb shelter. I follow up with using flextile 66 wall mortar and seal the hell out of the grout when I'm done. At this point, I've done enough that I have its installation down to a science. Why? Without even putting the tile up, its practically waterproof. I figure, in a rental situation, this shit needs to be able to go unmaintained. I act as the building manager now, but I'm not planning to live here for 30 years. Eventually, someone is going to take over this place that may not be as aware that the calking around the shower needs to be re-done in a few years or whatever else may happen. I can walk away saying one thing for sure...no water is coming through that wall. |
Oh, and sorry, back to the original point. I would definitely charge for repair. You can't really go to them for everything, but if he fell in the shower, its his fault that tiles were broken. They can either pay now, or wait until they move. Just make sure you have all repairs documented. |
