well since the cia has a stake in facebook (conspiracy theorists even go so far as to say its a cia program) its only natural they want to be able to track all your acquaintances "friends" or otherwise

Well, if it's a CIA program, I'd say they are doing a darn good job.
Not only are we volunteering our contacts, but sometimes I do the whole check-in thing too, so they've got my whereabouts. AND facebook makes money.

If this is government, I want more of it. I just wish Google Buzz took off a bit better. I would much rather welcome our google overlords.

Canada's privacy commissioner will never let this fly. The EU has already started investigating this change, essentially saying "Tagging must be an action and cannot be done carte blanche without a user's active choice and consent."
