Sony Ericsson Ringtone Q.

So, backstory is I bought a Cedar a couple of months ago from Fido. And learned quickly I couldn't use my songs that I load onto the MicroSD card as my ringtones. Thus I returned the phone.

Acouple of days ago my K500i died suddenly, and I needed a phone quick. Bought a Sony Ericsson Naite (J105) and again, can't use music as a ringtone.
(Note: This phone was also from Fido, to my knowledge it is still locked and branded.. could de-branding and unlocking let me use music as ringtones?)

Yet I've been doing some research and learned that there's a program called Sony Ericsson DRM packager.. supposedly allows you to convert the music file to the type that the phone allows..

Question:
Was wondering if there are any Sony Ericsson guru's out there that can help me with this. I bought the phone knowing that I can't load music as ringtones. It's not the end of the world if everything fails, just want to give it a try.

(PS. I've tried the myth that only a file under 499kb can work as a ringtone, this didn't work.)

TIA.

You need to look into SE's DRM software. The ringtones need to be encoded with Sony's copyright protection codec I believe so they have to be converted to that format and then put on your phone.

^^ Funny enough it's the same thread that brought me to the point of the DRM packager while searching last night.

I checked the loaded songs and they're either .mid or .dcf formats. There 2 mp3 formats aswell.

I do though understand the coded/uncoded (each song I can use as a ringtone as a small unlocked-lock next to it while my other music is just a tone symbol. Just need some insight if the DRM packager would work for this phone. the Esato link only seemed to be based on the *700i phone.

the reason that link is showing *700i phones is because it's from a few years ago. I know when I had my W580i, I had to use the DRM packager. I would think it's the same for most branded/locked SE phones these days

Well I guess when I get off work tonight or tomorrow night I'll give it a try and follow the Esato link instructions.

Any other info is appreciated, comments and what-not.

they need to be in .wav format; mp3 format wont work

^^ not correct.

Because the phone is locked/branded it had to be coded using DRM.

Came home and downloaded SE DRM Packager, ran a song through. Dropped it in the phones Memory. And it works perfectly.

Mods can close.
