You are not scamming the government... the government is scamming you with retarded taxes. But in the end, there's nothing you can do... ICBC can easily just dig this forum thread up and prove it as evidence... you're already raped up the bum if you try to neglect taxes... |
^ if you dont like paying taxes . maybe you should move to a country that has less taxes? You have choice where you want to live. |

How many times would you pay taxes selling a used car? Don't tell me used car dealers don't do favors similar to this to prospective/actual buyers... |
^ none of the dealerships I have worked at will declare false value to save the customers tax. Posted via RS Mobile |
My last car was a gift and I got full value of the car when it was totalled(rear ended). No questions was asked. The person who gave me the car was my brothers best friend, and he wrote a letter saying it was for my 20Th birthday. |

The money that goes to government goes into funding all different types of things. So before you " bitch please " me, you should thank the government who pays the welfare cheques in dtes Posted via RS Mobile |
Thanks guys for all your opinions. Quote:
completely off topic: I'm sorry, I didn't know it was my duty to pay for the welfare of lazy crack addicts. Maybe instead of saving up to buy a car, I should go just go and be a lazy bum on the street, and live off other peoples money... every minute I work - I pay taxes every time I fill up - I pay taxes every time I buy basic necessities to live - I pay taxes For owning a home - I pay taxes Tell me at which point in time the recipients of welfare checks pay taxes. Give me a break if I want to save $1200. |

edit: everyone pays taxes the same as you. just b/c you pay taxes everywhere means you can do tax fraud to save yourself 1200? do you pity those who tax fraud millions of dollars who get caught? |
you can put anything you want on paper. I bought a car that was 13.5k and i put down 5k when i did the transfer and bought insurance. the autoplan guy just asked me why was the car under market value and I only said that the car needed work. just tell the seller to come with you if its a private sell. saved me a lot of taxes there! |
more on this: i believe that if you claim it as 6k, and the car gets written off, you'll only get 6k, not 15k or the book value. if your car gets written off, please dont make a thread complaining about how icbc screwed you out of 9k. |

Pearsoncare, for decades the government has been forcing universal healthcare on us and taxing us moderately to cover it. I fucking hate this country, I'm emigrating to Syria where the government treats it's citizens fairly. Posted via RS Mobile |

Have a walk on the DTES and count the crackheads, then look how many people actually live in GVRD. Taxes pay for a lot of shit, from healthcare to upkeep of your electricity/plumbing/roads. Without taxes I'd love to see how fast the city would fall to shit. If you don't want to pay taxes: GO TO SIBERIA. |
Thanks dude !^ Posted via RS Mobile |
I understand taxes are a requirement to sustain the city, but just the fact that taxing people from buying USED items from other people is lame. I could live with taxing on buying used vehicle if the rate was lower for just this particular case, but at 12%... holy shit man! Only reason why we're taxed on buying used cars is it gives equal opportunities for car dealers to sell cars. Those of you who talk crap about "If you don't like it here, move to a different country" are just people who don't care even if they are get trampled down by the government and are unable to come up with more viable solutions as what a normal citizen should do... and THEY'RE the ones who should "move to a different country". |
No, I don't think I should move to another country; I recognize the extreme costs associated with providing social services to the citizens of this country and am willing to contribute finacially to sustain them. There is no system more fair for the government to collect revenue than sales taxes, it burdens all people equally despite income level or obligations based on what they spend. If you feel so strongly about taxing used items though Pk, explain how the system would work. - What would prevent a car dealer from driving a car around for a few days and calling it "used"? - How would you respond to protests from businesses selling new products, that businesses selling used products have an unfair advantage? - How would you replace the lost tax revenue or what government programs would you cut funding from? Argue and debate all you guys want! At the end of the day, you have to pay taxes! All this arguing and bickering does not make the government change the rules. However, if you like to do tax fraud, that is at your discretion. Don't cry when you get screwed over one day in life. |
To attempt to figure out how much a car may or may not have been sold for, both parties would need to be audited by the government not ICBC. ICBC doesn't care if you pay your takes they are just the point of sale collectors. Why would the government audit two people for a measly used car sale? |
Guys, Thanks a lot for your feedback. MODS: Feel free to rename this thread to "Taxes on Used items - Fair or Unfair " and move it to Van Offtopic. |

As of May 1, 2011, for gift transfer, there is a new form called Fin319. Any transactions after that date will need the new gift letter which can also be found here: http://www.sbr.gov.bc.ca/documents_l...s/0319FILL.pdf That is the only difference before May 1, 2011 as per the tax section in the Autoplan Manual. Remember, even if you have an old gift letter, you cannot use it now. Brokers will not accept the old style gift letters |
