web hosting help

I am traveling for work/school this summer and I am doing a directed studies on my field work so I need to create a blog style webpage that allows me to upload photos, video and music as well as make long text entries.

I will be graded on my content so it has to be professional but I don't have the means of creating a website from scratch. Does anyone know of a free web hosting company that allows FTP access and unlimited uploading? should I use wordpress, tumblr, or blogger? is that my easiest option?

I would recommend Wordpress. It gives you a lot of flexibility as to how your site functions. You have a lot of extra options because of plugins and widgets. You can also install wordpress on your own server and use ftp to upload content or use their own uploader. I haven't looked into it for a while but I'm pretty sure you can't do that for tumblr or blogger.

I'm not 100% sure about the free hosting though. If it's only for a few months, it may be worth it to just pay for hosting from a reputable company. I personally use namespro.ca (domain) and davesnetwork.ca(for hosting).

The hosting also needs to offer MySQL for Wordpress to work for it.

I was fooling around with wordpress and I found that you can't modify the CSS unless you pay a fee and you can't up load or modify templates unless you pay for a domain name etc... it just didn't seem worth it

Just pay for hosting. If you only need it for a few months it's not gonna be very expensive. Plus you'll have full un-restricted access to your site.

I use stablehost. And if you sign up within the next 10 hours you get a 50% off. Works out to $23.93 for 3 months including the domain name. The domain name is good for a year.

Stable Package:
Our most popular plan
5 GB Disk Space
100 GB Bandwidth Allowance
Unlimited Domains Allowed
Unlimited E-Mail Accounts
