Sounds like a possible jaw issue as he had an x-ray done. Don't think its a concussion as they wouldn't dare let him start the next shift if it was a concussion issue. Hoping it isn't anyways.
Providing Daniel comes back for the playoffs, this hit might be the best thing for the Canucks. I'm sure everyone remembers what happened the last time Daniel was out for an extended period of time. Henrik was forced to change his game - he had to cycle less and shoot & attack the net and it made him much more effective and dangerous, especially when Daniel came back. Fast forward to this year and it seems like they have fallen back to their old habits. I sincerely hope this injury is a blessing in disguise.
I wouldn't be surprised if Keith gets 1 or 2 games because he has a clean record.
The Canucks played with intensity last night, but it just doesn't seem like they have the horses to get through a long spring. I wouldn't be surprised if Daniel is gone for the rest of the regular season. Posted via RS Mobile

Keith is scheduled for a phone hearing, not an in person hearing, so whatever suspension he gets cannot be more than 5 games. I think it should be sometime today for the hearing
The one time Danny tries to be tough and lays a decent hit he ends up with a concussion out of the game

the second sad truth to be made. Chicago could have a well rested Keith for hte playoffs if he gets the 5. Well, whats better, a well rested norris winner or a tired one.
The NHL needs to wake the fuck up and protect their superstars.
What the hell happened to clean but physical hockey? The blatant elbows to the head with 3 game suspensions are ridiculous. Wish the NFL was running this league.
According to the CBC it looks as though plans are nearly complete to host Canucks Playoff parties inside the controlled environment of BC Place Stadium. Now that the stadiums roof opens, one can consider this to be a quasi outdoor party. All this planning, in hopes of another long playoff run is being put in place in direct response to the Stanley Cup riot of 2011.
The finalized plan hasn’t been made public, so no costs have been released. Here’s hoping the Canucks pick up some of the tab for extra policing and security. It’s a drop in the bucket to them for them and a lot of the crowds come in from the surrounding ‘burbs, thus some of the burden on city taxpayers can be recouped.
For now we want to look at the pros and cons of this arrangement, if it comes to fruition:
Pros
Controlled environment, keeping drunken fools out of the building.
Point one makes this a more family friendly event.
Seats. Your feet won’t hurt from standing on concrete.
No need for sun tan lotion, umbrellas etc…
If it rains, no problem just close the roof.
Big screens.
Still accommodates a large crowd.
Cons
Forced consumption of $8 beers and second rate fast food.
60,000 people + 20,000 from the home games + usually bar crowd = 100,000 + people spilling onto the streets all at once and they will all eventually converge onto Granville Street.
You’re inside. There is just something great about a public outdoor viewing party that can’t be matched inside a cavernous stadium.
The element of a riot is still there as people spill onto the streets afterwards.
The city also is looking into creating a number of small neighbourhood-based celebration sites. This could work if you shut down certain streets, say Main Street, Commercial, 4th Avenue. However, people need to get to the games so most likely screens will be set up in public parks and not on the streets.
Not sure how this will fly over with residents and party goers alike. The fact of the matter is people want to soak up the atmosphere and nothing beats downtown Vancouver during the playoffs. Surrey tried with their Central City viewing parties last year and if we all remember the screen shots from the CBC it looked pretty dead. That may change this year, who knows.
If the Canucks don’t start playing better all of this won’t even matter.

Hockey has always had an element of dirtiness to it (examples of modern day players who were dirty:Claude Lemieux, Ulf Samuelsson, Darius Kaspiritus, etc.) The NHL should take out the instigator rule and allow the players to police themselves. Also, the salary cap has severely restricted teams from spending their precious money on enforcer types to protect superstars.
But, you could also argue, as Don Cherry has for years, that players no longer feel they are accountable for their hits and play due to changes in equipment (visors, bigger equipment which hurts players, etc.) Posted via RS Mobile

While hockey has had dirtiness to it, plays like Dale Hunter on Turgeon or Ulf Samuelson and his knee hits have negatively affected the game. Even to a lesser extent, Moore's hit on Naslund.
If Hockey wants to make itself look better in the eyes of the non-Canadian market and expand in the US, this may be an area they will have to look at.
NFL has taken a hard stand on head shots and intentionally injuring stars of the game. Look at what happened yesterday.
The TSN panel mentioned yesterday that Rene Bourque got 5 games for his elbow to Backstrom but Backstrom has missed 41 games and counting. Look at Crosby. All it could take is one more headshot and his career could be done.
The instigator rule sucks, but playing 11 forwards and playing a guy 4 minutes a game to fight doesn't make sense either.
