Hey everyone. im in the process of making a custom sub box in the spare tire well of my mx3. ive made the mold approximately 3/4 the size of the well and about 1.5-2" higher then the floor of the car. i plan on installing a wooden false floor in the trunk with the sub woofer facing up in the center.
my problem is the box volume is approximately 1.65 cubic feet which is too big to be a sealed box for my alpine type-r. ive discovered that alpine suggest 1.7 cubic feet for a ported box which is almost perfect for the size im at now. there isn't a deep enough spot in the box to install a port facing up, neither would i want to run the risk of having stuff fall in it. would having the port horizontal facing the side of the sub have any adverse effects? if i was to install the port in that position it would be venting into a small compartment (probably around .5 cubic feet) i plan on storing oil and such. the compartment would be covered with a piece of wood, it won't be sealed but it probably wont have the most airflow. can anyone think of any problems i would run into having the port vent into such a small location? or any problems storing items in that area? |
