air conditioner window units help! is it possible to use horizontal window units veritcally into casement windows? all the windows in my home slide left to right...some say they just cover the rest of the openings with wood. could someone with the knowledge explain to me? I would like to purchase a window ac unit at walmart which is only 88$ but it is horizontal. thanks in advance! |
crap.. wrong section, mod please move it for me! thanks |
$88 AC unit will be loud as hell if u plan to install it in ur bedroom Posted via RS Mobile |
yea i dont mind, cant stand my room anymore, it gets really hot and fans cannot do much |
Here's my ac setup in my room that's meant for a vertical mount, but since my window only slides sideways like yours, I had to do some work to make it secure. So I measured the dimensions of the gap (length, width, height) above the ac, went to Rona and made them cut out a piece of wood for me. It slid it right in and fit snug tight. There were also some other things I had to do to make it more secure since it's not actually screwed down or anything. Use your imagination and be careful when trying to mount it and good luck! http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/1317/img0236yd.jpg |

http://www.revscene.net/forums/old-s...ondtioner.html A thread about installing A/C from 2007........ |
I use a horizontal unit in my windows like yours. Except it's a bigger Danby 8000 btu unit and the border around the whole unit (top, bottom, sides) is metal so the window frame actually holds it there without anything else. I also have the Danby 5000 btu one you're talking about and only the top part of the border is metal so the window can close down on it. There is no side border except for the plastic screen so you can't really close your sideway window and have it not fall down without screwing the unit down. Here's a picture of the border I'm talking about. This one has the metal part on the top and nothing on the side. The plastic screen goes on the side. http://content.blueport.com/ProductImages/2/90076.jpg |

That thread also has valuable information that I recommend you to read. |
5000 btu will take an hr to cool down a room, also if ur room is larger than 80sq ft the unit will die quickly (speaking from a guy who lives in a hot place) Posted via RS Mobile |
thanks for the help! gonna just buy a portable ac instead of going through all that trouble! =D |

Portable acs are much better, but I was on a budget, so I bought a window-mount one instead. |
Portable A/C are alright priced in USA home depot. The closest one is in Bellingham (only 15 min from the border) Threw it in my track car after track day and CBSA didn't even charge me tax on it. 9000BTU for $299 http://hphotos-snc6.fbcdn.net/240663...2_681094_o.jpg But then not all track cars are created equal. Your DD might not even fit one in the back :okay: |
Here's a thread from a couple years ago, that discusses A/C vs Fan vs Other: http://www.revscene.net/forums/vanco...ditioning.html |
i love my commercial cool portable AC :) |
