most nba all star votes ever and largest partner deals? I read an article about it how he will still be making a fortune if he retires now... Fans in china feel ashamed wearing his jersey from what i heard :okay:

Every post must end with :fuckthatshit: to contribute to our beloved yao ming.

Yao Ming didn't do shit to promote NBA worldwide. He is very well known in China, but they don't give a shit about NBA, they like Yao Ming. In fact after his retirement from NBA, he will probably return to China and become an even bigger star doing whatever...

And "worldwide".... come on. Ask anyone in Europe or Australia or Brazil or Asia outside China, who is more familiar - Yao Ming or Michael Jordan...

Are you sure about that? Isn't basketball huge in China?

AzNightmare 07-08-2011 09:13 PM

damn. must be the injuries?
I don't follow NBA, but he had a pretty short career.

But he can pretty much live off with all the money he has now

Not from what I can tell. Yao Ming is huge though, you see him everywhere. But never wearing a (whatever team he plays on) jersey

It is certainly bigger than it was before Yao Ming though, that is for sure! And surely bigger than any other American league.

CorneringArtist 07-08-2011 10:22 PM

Sucks to see him go, but he's probably gonna dip into major endorsement deals in China, and possibly coach a la Michael Jordan?

oh, and to keep with the meme see <-

Wait, that "Fuck That Shit" meme guy plays basketball?

Ikkaku 07-09-2011 01:18 AM

Houston Rockets were pretty big in China, firstly because of Yao Ming, and then somehow of all people -- Shane Battier became a superstar there (for a bit, but not anymore).

FAIL

There is more people in China that watches NBA (especially playoffs) than anywhere in the world, With Yao Ming or not, since he hasn't played very often for the last couple of years.

Please stop with your misinformation about China lol ..

There is NBA games everyday, plus tons of NBA variety shows and reports. :speechless: I go to pubs to watch regular NBA games all the time, and yes, with other chinamen

Michael Jordan made NBA what it is in China. Not Yao ming

Ratings for Rockets games are high in China. I guess because of Michael Jordan? Rockets get a lot of sponsorship from China, what about the other teams? How many Chinese sponsors followed Michael Jordan's teams? None.

Of course there is an overall impact (like I said) but nothing matters as much as Yao Ming.

Like I said, NBA is easily the most popular american league in China, because of Yao Ming (not Michael Jordan). So that is why the pubs you go to are playing NBA games instead of, say, NFL or NHL.

So... umm what was all your horn tooting about, with bolded "FAIL" and all that nonsense? You pretty much reiterated what I said (unintentionally which is funny), and spouted off more bullshit about "failing" and stopping with my "misinformation". The only part where you are really wrong is the one part that you disagreed with me on.

So yeah. :fuckthatshit:

goo3 07-09-2011 05:15 AM

shame he's done

you have to wonder if china didn't mismanage him early in his career, would he still be playing

I haven't heard about Yao Ming for a long time....:fuckthatshit:

MoBettah 07-09-2011 10:20 AM

Mad respect for Yao, the man carried a burden that few people could even fathom and did so with humility, character and honor.

How many nba stars can you say that about these days?
