Cleanable Exhaust Tips? My Exhaust tips are like this... Not sure how to describe them other than the picture: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...10717-1627.jpg Is it still cleanable/fixable? |
Steel wool would probably be your best bet. Not sure if that's a screw or a rivet at the bottom there but if you can remove the tips it would make it easier to clean. |
I use metal polish on mine. Applied by hand it usually does good enough a job, cause lets face it, its just going to get dirty again quickly. Don't use steel wool unless you want a brushed look. Metal polish is <$10 and will restore a better shine. |
Steel wool is going to scratch the hell out of it. Go with the metal polish like mentioned above and pick up a $5 polishing pit from Princess Auto. Attach it to a rotary tool or drill and you're good to go. |
Something fine like #00 steel wool won't scratch the hell out of it. The ends of the tips look particularly bad and I honestly don't think metal polish would get that out. However, as with paint, start with the least aggressive and work your way up. Try the metal polish like others have mentioned first. If that doesn't do the trick, then work your way up to the steel wool. |
Alright I shall try it out... What brand of metal polish? |

I do prefer Meguiar's products if you can find them, Canadian Tire only seems to carry the Mother's metal polish. |
I use NEVR-Dull wadding polish for chrome and metal parts. They sell it @ Cambodian Tire for $9.99. |
Steel wool will probably scratch the hell of it, but that's the point, that's why you use metal polish after it to take away the scratches. The exhaust is in pretty bad shape, metal polish alone won't do anything. Take a look at some of Ken's previous work here and see what he does with the exhaust tips. |
OOOO steel wool won't scratch it. Its available at Home Depot and its cheap. Use it with a metal polish and it should clean up nicely. If you want to clean the inside of the exhaust tip as well, you may need something like Autosol with the steel wool. When using metal polish, just use a pea sized drop and spread it as far as possible. Use Costco MF or an old T shirt to wipe it down with as you'll have to throw them out when you're done. You don't want any debris off your exhaust getting any where near the rest of your car. |
jus use aluminum polish Mothers® Mag and Aluminum Polish | Canadian Tire |
How do you apply that stuff? |
u jus use a microfiber cloth and wipe it down. its like wax |
