Apple Posts Record Earnings...

Surprised nobody has posted Apple's quarterly earnings report since it was the biggest tech news yesterday (perhaps Murdoch is stealing their thunder).
  • $28.57 billion in sales (up 82% from last year).
  • $7.31 billion in profit (up 125% from last year).
  • 20.34 million iPhones sold (up 142%).
  • 9.25 million iPads sold (up 183%).
  • 7.54 million iPods sold (down 20% which is no surprise since iPhones duplicate iPod functionality).
  • 3.95 millions Macs sold (up 14%).
That is a huge number of iPhones and iPads. I'm quite surprised they had their best quarter ever for iPhones considering the next iPhone is only a few months away. I would have expected a drop in iPhone sales.

^It was posted in the stock market forum

I'm not surprised - the White iPhones were released not too long ago - it's reason enough for people to want a brand new phone that has the exact same functionality, but is different in colour.

There's a stock market forum on RS? Guess I'm still thinking of RS as being a "car enthusiast" forum. ;)

Because consumers shouldn't care about this stuff. Unless you're a shareholder, why would you care? That is one thing I don't get about apple fans. They are constantly bringing up sales figures and share prices, yet they aren't the ones making the money, they are the ones turning people into billionaires by constantly buying the same overpriced products over and over again for the last 6 years. :seriously:

dangonay 07-20-2011 09:21 PM

^ I didn't know this was the "Consumers Only" computer forum. I guess we should stop talking about things like building your own rigs, overclocking, which video card is best or even Bitcoins, since the vast majority of "consumers" don't care about these topics either.

Face it, you're just a blind Apple hater who claims to not care about Apple yet can't resist showing up and posting in any Apple thread.

What's next? Oh, another fail I'm sure. Or maybe you can use your mod powers to ban Apple related threads. Or ban users that post up FACTS that piss you off.

LOL I'm an apple hater now :lol

There is a financial forum if you wish to discuss finances. For users, shit like this SHOULDN'T matter

BTW, I am not a 'hater' of any brand or a 'fan' of any brand. I use whatever products I see fit. If I see flaws in a product, I criticize it. If a product does something well, I praise it. I don't give two shits about what brand is labeled on my product, and I certainly don't give a single shit about how much money that brand makes. I have been using apple products I deem suitable for many years. I have products from dozens of other brands - samsung, htc, lg, apple, etc.

The bottom line is, people shouldn't use a BRAND to identify themselves. Be yourself. If you like an apple product, GREAT! If you like a Samsung product, WONDERFUL! But don't get so ANGRY when someone points out the flaws of a PHONE YOU USE. Why should that affect your life? IT IS A PHONE.

Who cares..Google made over $9 billion in revenue this quarter and nobody needed to brag about it here.

On a related note

Nokia released its Q2 results, which were expected to be bad, and now for the 1st time in 15 Years Nokia isn't the #1 Smartphone manufacturer in the World, Apple is; unless Samsung surpasses estimates

Nokia only shipped 16.7mn smartphones (88.5million phones) in the 2nd quarter a Major, Major drop (they shipped 25.2million in the 1st quarter; and 24million in Q2 2010)

congrats Elop for destroying Nokia in your trojaning for Microsoft (which blew up in both ur faces)

SkinnyPupp 07-21-2011 06:45 AM

Nokia was going down in the first place. It may be that the Microsoft thing is the only thing that can save them from ruin. We'll have to wait and see.

On a related note: :fuckthatshit:

Wrong forum, and cool story bro to Apple. Oh well. Just another way for the hardcore sycophants to validate their expenditure on apple things. Gives them a sense of purpose. I gave apple a try, and really, I'm putting my money elsewhere in thr future.

BBC News - Microsoft revenues hit a record as Xbox sales soar

The US technology giant Microsoft said its annual revenues hit a record of $69.94bn (£43.4bn).

Sales of the company's Xbox 360 videogame console and its Office software helped fuel the growth.

Net income at the world's biggest software maker jumped 23% to 23.15bn for the year.

The figures, which beat earnings estimates, also showed final quarter revenues reached a record high of $1.37bn, leading to profits of $5.87bn.

Sales rose 8% to $17.37 billion, a boosted chiefly by sales of Office, Xbox and server software behind Microsoft's push into cloud computing.

Microsoft's business division, which sells the Office suite of programs, including Outlook, SharePoint and Excel, was the company's biggest seller in the quarter, increasing sales by 7% to $5.8bn.

The company's online services unit, which runs the Bing search engine and MSN internet portal, increased sales by 16.5% to $662m, but saw losses increase to $728m as it struggles to fight competitor Google.

One weaker spot was sales of its widely-used Windows product, which are slowing as tablet PC sales eat into demand for traditional PCs.

On Wednesday, chipmaker Intel warned that PC sales would not be as strong as it had expected this year.

Microsoft is itself expected to enter the tablet market next year with the launch of its next operating system, code-named Windows 8, which will be compatible with the low-power chips commonly used by tablet and mobile phone makers.

Microsoft is the latest technology company to exceed profit expectations.

Google, Apple and IBM all reported strong earnings recently.

With Apple's share growing slowly, and Android's share growing rapidly, I don't see how Nokia could be going anywhere but down
