40 mpg camaro?

Is it just me or does the canadian ad laws allow companies to flat out lie about their products?

PuYang 07-28-2011 09:45 AM

^ source? explain?

my brother used to drive 2010 camaro v6. it got better highway gas mileage than my prelude. direct injection and 6 speeds > my 5 speed. my car cruises at ~2800-3000 rpm at 80-100kmh. his camaro cruised just below 2k i think. also took 87, while my prelude requires 91 >;C

I doubt they are lying, or else they would get sued for false advertisement.

For example, all food sold in Canada must include ingredient labels in packaged food.

But it doesn't mean that they cant work around the system, lets say they put gas in the car and let it run til it dies , with no stops = better mileage.

source = gm canada website
US site says 29mpg 2011 Chevy Camaro Coupe Specs and Features | Chevrolet
which IMO is actually pretty realistic considering a few magazines have achieved that easily, but 40 is definitely optimistic, maybe someone goofed on the conversion from L/100km?

I thought EPA etc. do the testing for fuel economy not the manufacturers themselves

TRDeol 07-28-2011 10:30 AM

Could be true, somebody go test it out!

Presto 07-28-2011 11:11 AM

Transport Canada has it's own testing procedures compared to the EPA, so fuel consumption figures will vary a bit. Also, when MPG is reported, they usually mean Imperial gallons, which is larger than a US gallon, so MPG numbers appear to be higher.

Exactly.

I'm pretty sure my 350Z gets better mileage than my old Camry.

I'm usually not a fan of American cars, but I've been itching to get the new Camaro.. I fell in love with the new body style

thats gear ratios, if his car is hopping a bit under 2000 rpms on the highway then his engine isnt actually working that hard. i wouldnt call them liars but id like to see both city and highway mileage.

i also heard that manufacturers put tires on their cars that dont preform well but get greater mileage (not sure if this is a myth or is true)

^ true. Google low rolling resistance tires. Widely used in Prius and other small frugal vehicles. :okay:

Canadian MPG ratings are all higher because they're not in imperial MPG, they're in metric.

My Jeep is rated 39 MPG in Canada, in the USA it's rated at 28 MPG.

Canadian MPG is based off the imperial gallon, which is ~4.55L. The US Gallon is ~3.79L. A metric fuel economy, in the case of your Jeep, would be 8.4L/100km

My bad, I shouldn't post at 8am lol

nabs 07-29-2011 06:59 PM

30MPG mixed highway/streets.. 36ish straight highway.. sucks on the streets, lol.

Hex 07-30-2011 03:50 PM

40 MPG Doesn't sound realistic at all.. my 2010 v8 SS Camaro m6 only gets about 17.5 mpg.

or... 13.5L/100km. (mixed with mostly hwy) And the v8's require 91+

My friends with the v6's... Some were getting worse mileage than me, and some were getting barely better mileage... There really isn't a huge gap in mileage difference between the Auto's the Manual & the v6 vs v8.... Not as big as you'd expect anyways.

I never heard of anyone getting 40mpg in a Camaro.

Go read the camaro forum mileage threads.
