Dodge Challenger R/T So I paid a visit to make sure that my next car would be right. The good man trying to push his main sale, a Hemi Challenger, offered me the car for round a 3/4 the original price. Anyone have experience with this ride? We had some problems because I told him the V6 Mustang was the same price. I told him the Challenger was better because it was fully loaded but I was worried about performance. Anyone have advice on what this thing would be like with coilovers and sway bars. Opinions would be much appreciated. |
Are these new 2011 models? And are you saying you can get a V8 Hemi Challenger for the same price as a V6 Mustang? If the cars are manual, the V8 Challenger RT is only a bit faster than the Mustang, but the Mustang will handle better. The Challenger will have a lot more torque though so the feel will be quite different. The Challenger is a big car and weighs quite a bit more (500 lbs or so). V8 Challengers don't handle badly, but they will need some fat tires and some suspension work to handle as well as the Mustang. Chances are unless you track or autox the car, you probably wouldn't notice it too much in daily driving. |
the challenger is a beauty but i've been seeing more of them on the street than i do civics! i dont think the challenger handles as well as the new mustangs though some things to consider :D |

of the big 3 the challenger is the worst in performance numbers iirc. but I think the overall package is pretty good. V6 vs V8..do you want to save some gas? IMO, 2011 mustangs look gorgeous.. |
test drive them both. My vote goes to the mustang |
Personally I think the Camaro is a boat and are too common, the Challenger i love the looks but are underpowered and common. And as for the Mustang, theres less of them but im not big on there looks. |
I'd take the Challenger for its looks. Get a black one, lower it with some wheels and you're set. |
Challenger is based on an ageing benz platform ill take the mustang or camaro over it anytime |
The Challenger is a let down. Its great looking, yet its huge, and feels much bigger and heavier than the original - then the performance numbers let down too. I'd get one, yet only for a discount. The Mustang... sadly since I'm not a Ford guy... is a better buy. |
mustang hands down, decent fuel economy, lots of horespower for a v6. handles good and looks half decent. |
I think the Mustang is a better buy. The Boss 302 edition is pretty nice and the new glass roof feature on the GT model is nice. |

my dad has an 08 challenger rt and with the 4 cylinder eco mode it gets decent mileage but obviously only on the freeway or moving at a constant speed. id take the challenger. ive always been a mustang guy but i could never drive a v6 mustang regardless of the performance figures. plus the challenger just looks badass. the hanbdling i find not that great but i have a subaru wrx haha v8 > v6 haha |
^ in one of the parts they have a short comparison of how the new style muscles handle... the challenger unfortunately is at the very bottom of the stack |
^One of the best moments/episodes/challenge from the history of Top Gear. |
I'd still prefer mustang > challenger, you get more advanced engine technology and it's a lot lighter IIRC. Better on gas, and I'd imagine parts are cheaper considering how many they have sold over the last 5 years. Interior is no competition IMO, the mustang is way nicer. Mustang V6 base price is ridiculously good bang for the buck and still comes with loads of standard features. Originally I much preferred the look of the GT but saw the V6 once in silver and I thought it looked awesome. Anyways, what can I say but test drive and see which one you like to drive better. |
