Another Tallest Building in the Works

Saudi Arabia Begins Construction of World's Tallest Building

Saudi Arabia is going to build the Kingdom Tower, which will be 1km tall, which will make it significantly taller than the current tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

If you want to picture how tall that would be if it were constructed in downtown Vancouver, it would almost be as tall as the peak of Grouse Mountain, which is 1.2km.

Looks awesome, it kinda reminds me of the citadel in half life2

how far up will it actually have floors that people can use? The Burj Khalifa top is nothing but storage.

gars 08-04-2011 03:43 PM

ya, it's insane. As a benchmark, the Shangri-La is only 201m tall. By no means is it a tall building, but imagine this behemoth being built here....

So what is this? I googled up Kingdom Tower images and found this.

edit: nevermind. Just found out this is actually called "Kingdom Centre"
Looks pretty cool but relatively puny.

cool tower bro's but im more impressed with actual cool architecture rather than "my penis is smaller than yours but my tower is bigger" architecture.

TALL BUILDINGS ARE AWESOME!

That's pretty damn awesome! What people often miss is that for a building that tall, the infrastructrue underground is always equally as impressive. Probably 3-400m deep parkade!

iEatClams 08-04-2011 05:09 PM

I guess that's where the next Mission Impossible movie will be shot.

twitchyzero 08-04-2011 05:13 PM

there's always going to be a tallest building in the works
it's like a mulitnational penis size contest

RRxtar 08-04-2011 05:42 PM

its ok vancouver, you still have that turd on top of the harbor center at 216meters that is slightly taller than that eyesore in calgary at 191 meters

Isnt it like the infrastructure has to be 1/4 or 1/3 the hight of the building...
Crazy deep though

It's being designed by the same architect that designed the Burj Dubai. He was working for another firm for the first one, and his own firm this time.

My guess is he made some decent coin the first time, and now gets way more the second time out.

There's prob so much thought put into it, in the case of natural disasters hitting the city and what not.

Onassis 08-05-2011 08:33 AM

Everytime I hear Kingdom tower or Kingdom Center I think of the jehova's witnesses lol

StylinRed 08-05-2011 08:48 AM

Anyone else find it interesting that one of the investors is the Binladen Group? They're a huge Saudi company but I thought thought it was interesting they are involved in making the biggest tower in the world.

Well the Binladen group is a very influential company over there, which was probably why they (publicly) denied all ties with Osama. Not good for business if one of your members is on the world's most wanted list... Lol.

The BinLaden group has been around for a long time, way before Osama became famous. They hold most of the major construction projects in Saudi Arabia due to their strong ties with the government.

It's going to be awesome when one of these 1KM tall buildings falls down one of these days.
